That's bullshit! Cuba seems to be exporting a lot of Cubans to the US and the Cubans can't wait to get to Miami. They would swim across if they could!

A friend of mine is Cuban. She is currently living and working in Spain whilst her family is living and working in Miami.

Cuba is just an example for hospitality development, nothing more.
I don't support communist regimes, poverty etc.

For starters, a good place to start is Larnaca. Get rid of all those petroleum tanks, clean up the beaches
and establish a new stretch for development from the tanks all the way to the Dhekelia SBA.
Convince the Brits, if possible, to dismantle their base (move it to Akrotiri) and include the base grounds on a grand scale scheme
for the project. Invite tenders and entertain business plans. Keep the Dhekelia golf course and install a helipad nearby.

The project can spark 1000s of construction jobs along with many more to operate/maintain afterwards.
I don't understand comments relating to waiters, barmen, hotel employees, taxi drivers as "bad" jobs. Tell that to the 1000s of unemployed
Cypriots to pile up in the coming months and years.

I don't believe any job is a bad job but if those jobs are all that is on offer then what hope is there for young Cypriots?

I would say not much and thousands will emigrate to other countries making the situation even worse.

Georgios, you need a reality check mate. Your above thesis is ridiculous. Have you any idea how long something like that would take, the infrastructure needed, costs involved etc etc, we'll all be dead and buried by then.

Move the British, yeah, OK, I know its Aprils fools days, but this just takes the biscuit!

Construction jobs, this sort of talk always comes from completely ignorant and uninformed people about Cyprus. I guess your intentions are good, but bloody hell.
We are a population of under 1 million, do you have ANY idea how many people would need to visit such sites to even make them feasible? And who, or what idiot is going to pour in the billions to do this at this stage??

What we need here, today, is a quick start mechanism to keep the wheels turning and developing others areas.

Examples:
1. Reduce interest on loans
2. Extend payback period
3. Reduce duty on fuel
4. Reduce Electricity costs
5. Reduce public sector positions and pay
6. Offer some tax incentives for start ups
7. Garner EU grants, help the local population to apply, many of these grants are almost impossible to apply for, get specialists to help
8. Review / reduce Cyprus High commissions is countries that don't give any real benefit. It can be a short term say 5 years and then rebuild
9. Cut allowances/expenses for MPs. Let them use their own vehicles/drivers
10. Look at retraining courses for those that need to change direction

I am sure there are many more, these will brings immediate benefits and at the same time change our mindset to develop further.

I would say for the immediate tackle of unemployment, projects like this would provide enough work
to compensate the job losses from the banking sector and elsewhere. These jobs are mostly construction related,
engineering, architectural, environmental along with low skilled work such as hotel staff and administrators.
Projects like these might head off some of the immigration outflow till the natural gas starts to roll in. The abundance of cheap energy may enable
the government to subsidize/ boost manufacturing and agriculture. At the same time, high level energy jobs kick in to supplement the vacuum created
by the failing banking sector.

But I agree, immigration is the worst aftermath of this crisis. The biggest natural resource of CY is population/labor force.
Combating unemployment is the only way to stop immigration.
