Guess who thinks ROC spends too much on arms.

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

Guess who thinks ROC spends too much on arms.

No not the EU but our "friendly" neighbours. Apparently they present no threat to Cyprus. This is Turkey's "subtle" way of disarming the ROC.

The more I think about it the more it becomes obvious that this whole stinking bank business has more to do with forcing Greek Cypriots to accept a solution to the Cyprus problem that may be even worse than the Annan Plan.

Turkey has been asking this from the Kurds as well. Its an obvious trick and exposes Turkey's real intentions which is not peace and partnership but a neo ottoman hegemony of the region where everyone else becomes a 2nd class defenseless subject.

The fact of the matter is that if Turkey wasnt such an antagonizer, our military spending wouldnt be so high.

Omirou who is turning out to be the conscience of Cyprus stated that the troika's decision was inevitably linked to the future handling of Cyprus’ natural resources and of a future Cyprus "solution".

What has taken an even bigger toll is the mere fact that 37% of our territory is still illegally occupied by an aggressor and regional bully, so our military expenditure is more of an investment into our survival and Defence against this illegal aggression. In fact, INMHO, the RoC should proceed to engage Israel and enter into new Joint Ventures and start making things like UAVs. I believe there is a Joint Research project which could be expanded into developing a stealthy Advance UAV for the CNG and also build an export version thus create some blooming good jobs.

This is not far fetched INMHO. We are talking about remotely controlled attack aircraft which are cheap to build and are expendable. The Israelis are experts in this field.

Until the day of liberation, the RoC simply can't afford to let the CNG be reduced in capability. It surely can't rely on Greece and we should have known this from the day 1 into our declaration of independance in 1960. The day we became independent was the day we should have joined NATO and not play silly buggers. We would not be discussing a Cyprus Problem today if that was the case. There was no way NATO would have ever allowed a Coup or an invasion if we were smart.

how stupid is it to spend so much money on defence when you know you cannot defend yourself against a country.

this reminds me of second world war in london. the germans were bombing london and there was no defence against them and yet they continued to fire in the air pretending to fight. it made people feel better during war time. whilst it is understandable to fool the public during war time and in fact it raises their spirits what is the purpose of such stupidity during peace time.

now i wonder how much of the spending ends up in the ministers account

some people seems are still in denial. it was nato and in particular the usa that caused the cyprus problem because they wanted cyprus as part of nato. are you suggesting we solve the problem by giving it to them. thats real clever.

They can more than defend themselves against what Turkey has stationed here on Cyprus and that’s what matters in conflict… the resources that are readily available.

That Turkey may have another 2,000 tanks parked somewhere on their northern mountains is of no interest to us and of no short term value. :)

you are blind. you could not defeat 5000 unorganised scattered mujahids. whats the chance against fully armed professional army of 40,000. i bet 3 days they will be in limasol. i hope none my friends live in limasol.

No, it’s the other way round. Unless Turkey can re-supply it’s the GCs who will be in Kyrenia by the end of the week.

The CNG has superior firepower to the junk Turkey has stationed here on Cyprus and they can garner almost 100,000 men.

A reminder please for those who are serving in the NG or in any Reserve that may or may not exist... don't give away any info whatsoever that may be useful to the enemy in this thread.

There are Turkish Agents like Vordos and others around.
