They were easy loopholes to get around that - look at Sweden. Entered the EU in 1995 - still no euro because they did not want to. I think if the european leaders (first of all Angela Merkel of course) start to disconnect the euro from the EU, the better. Euro simply does not fit to all countries - plain and simple. Then finally not everyone would still blame Germany for the bad things. I am just surprised Germany is still not blamed for the bad weather in Northern europe? But, as things going i am afraid thats only a matter of time.

We entered to suck up to the Europeans thinking they would help us with the Turkish problem.

One has to ask if Merkel's other reason is remove Cyprus as an obstacle to Turkey's accession. She wants to decide if and when Turkey joins the EU. Cyprus has, for all practical purposes, now completely lost its veto unless it can regain its economic independence.

I think you could be right...

Given the billions already given to Turkey the decision has probably already been made....

Remember that Germany is in the NATO and has a fuckton of U.S.A military bases on their soil.
