Exactly, cheap (relatively clean) and reliable gas is the best way forward - will boost the economy in so many ways...

But where on earth are the funds to extract and process whatever is down there going to come from?

If its gonna be one of those deals whereby the company extracting it is also funding it I think we’re better off leaving it there in case we end up increasing our debt!

The host nation imposes taxes on the fuel extracted as it sees fit....

These fools are too dumb to approach Turkey and cut a package deal that will transfer gas through Turkish soil in return for the island’s liberation, so if they proceed to get others to fund everything AND direct it in Greece’s direction we’re fucking doomed!

We need to increase self-sufficiency. Buying imported goods and/or goods from foreign-owned shops is tantamount to high treason.

Importing fossil fuels should be limited as well. Our renewable energy sources must be fully exploited, and the RES industry must be state-supported and encouraged for further development.

I do not know of any island nation in the world who is self-sufficient, do you? Would be nice it that can be achieved but i think it is rather unrealistic.

Obviously not. We can never become completely self-sufficient, but we should exploit our full potential towards that direction.

Currently Cyprus is producing less solar power than Germany! Why? Because of lack of planning.
