No, it would be much worse, we at least have a population that is literate and can find work abroad.

Do you know how many Turks work or live abroad?

As street cleaners?

Lets get back to the topic at hand,

Turkey has urged the European Union to restructure the terms of the current Customs Union, or cancel the Customs Union altogether and make a separate free trade deal with Turkey.

“If this system aggrieves us then we tell the European Union: Let’s revise this system, lift the visas, lift the quotas on our goods and say ‘Turkey is also a side in this deal,’ while making free trade deals with other countries. Or we could leave the Customs Union and you could make a free trade deal with us,” Turkish Economy Minister Zafer Çağlayan told daily Hürriyet.

The Customs Union has begun to work completely against Turkey. Under these circumstances, to switch to a Free Trade Deal would be more in line with Turkey’s interests,”

Perhaps the EU want to claw back their hamonisation funds covertly but he should not worry. The EU needs Turkey more than Turkey needs the EU. Also, what if Turkish firms also get expelled from the EU, just like Turkey expelled ENI.

Lets see what the EU's response is, if this is not a deliberate response to Turkeys behaviour. karma is a b*tch.

I believe that I read somewhere that 50-70% of Turkey trade (GDP) is at risk of slipping through her fingers. This is potentiall much, much worse.

Erdogan recently upgraded that to…

“The world needs Turkey more than Turkey needs the world!”

And I heard there are plans to reword it so as to include other planets. 8)

who is predicting..................................

The Customs Union has begun to work completely against Turkey" Turkish Economy Minister Zafer Çağlayan told daily Hürriyet.

“This would have a huge negative effect on our trade with the US,” Rızanur Meral said, president of the Turkish Confederation of Business-men and Industrialists (TUSKON), "This is a great danger for Turkey."
