Brussels wants control of Cyprus' banks.. I guarantee you that's the problem ...and compared to Iceland where it sitsin the middle of the Atlantic somewhere Cyprus sits in the middle of a geopolitical hurricane and with no allies once it's out of the Eu...

There is only one solution, the Icelandic way.

1. Let the banks go bust, sweep them away into the dust bin of history.
2. Create new banks.
3. Exit the euro and take up the cypriot pound again.
4. Move the deposits in the failed banks over to the new banks, as cypriot pounds, maximum €100K's worth for each account. Also move over all aspects of the DOMESTIC banking system to the new banks, let foreigners burn in the bankrupt banks.
5. Put on capital controls.

This is the only thing that ensures your sovereignty, your independence, and also ensures you honor agreements with regard of deposits. Most of all there is no confiscation.

Endure inflation for couple of years, but after that you'll be back on your feet.

So we should put 8,000 people out of work (8,000 families), screw the pension funds of a couple of hundred thousand people, and at least double the price of everything when we are all on unemployment benefit which the Government can't afford to pay?

We are not Iceland!

It's going to happen one way or another.

If you think you can maintain the banks as they've been for the past years you're in for a surprise. Whatever the solution, your banking system will not be the same, and many people will lose their jobs.

We know that, but your scenario is worse than what we will have to endure if we agree with the Troika.

And instead of Cyprus Pound it can be renamed into something that would suit bi-communally.

I’d call it the Southern Euro and encourage Greece, Italy, Spain, and Portugal to adopt it.

Reality check:

We're staying in the Euro. (Tomorrow - or Tuesday, the Euro soars.)

We have been forced to owe EU 10 bn. Hence we are tied in; and Russia is in our history. (Unless they come back with a BETTER offer :) )

We settle down to our entrepreneurial skills. We go back to BOOM in 2 years, 3 years max.

The EU keep an eye out that Turkey do NOT take over the whole island - because they (EU) have now invested some money here.

Cyprus starts pumping Gas and Merkel has her fill!

(We have some power and negotiate complete removal of Turks!)

Stay strong fellow Greeks and remember, don't let the buggers divide us any more!
