Dear, courageous Cypriotes,
thank you so much for rejecting this law. Please know that many Germans are on your side: we dont want to take Money from innocent people from your beautiful Island nor from our taxpayers. The really guilty ones, rich bankers and big Managers should pay the bill now.
Excuse my poor english.

They will insist on having the last word or "punish" Cyprus in some way for daring to stand up to them. Probably agree to drip-feed the bail-out funds at high rates of interest and then try and steal the gas in a few years time.

I don't think so, Jerry. The EU has just found out that they are no longer dealing with little ol' Cyprus but the 600 pound Gorilla called Russia. I think Russia blackmailed the EU by putting the fear in them, that they would bail out Cyprus themselves in return for having certain amount of control over Cyprus's Gas & Oil fields. The EU was not about to risk the Russians having any control of the Cyprus Gas other than a block or two to drill in. A truly David vs. Goliath event. Cyprus will be walking very tall now and will be recognised and respected by all for "The Little Country That Could"! :D

What are you people celebrating? although I did not agree with this tax on deposits, the crisis is far from over...a run on the banks is in order tomorrow, especially now south Cyprus has been found out large sums will find there way to Latvia or other money laundering havens....South Cyprus will follow Greece very fast if funding is not found very soon and it looks like the EU will drip feed an already ailing economy, maybe to little to late, cant you people get this gas to market quicker?

According to MP Marios Mavrides interviewed on BBC tonight they are looking for other ways to raise the 5.8 billion within Cyprus, mention was made of borrowing against pension funds. Another suggestion was that the cash taken from bank deposits should be treated as a loan and repaid with interest. Mavrides even spoke of a possible return to the Cyprus pound. The ROC has slapped Merkel and co in the face, I hope I'm wrong but "punishment" could come in the form of a move towards recognising the "trnc".

punishment?????..........the pseudo state has no leg to stand on, numerous UN resolutions make anything like what you said invalid....

The Eu knew the deal they served Cyprus wasnot going to pass....!!! Its effect, of course, scaring the Russian oligarchs out of Cyprus may have worked...In my opinion they(russian oligarchs) should leave Cyprus. Russia and its oligarchs are only looking out for their interests and their Gas companies, nothing for Cyprus
