The poor Russians are leaving. The rich ones are everywhere - they don't plan to leave.

In addition, Cyprus has recently discovered enough gas reserves to sustain the country's energy needs for over two centuries. Some believe the battle over rights for these reserves is really at the centre of the EU-Russia standoff. This is in sharp contrast to the situation in the UK, where depleting North Sea oil will increasingly expose the UK to rising energy prices.

Bit of a contradiction here: is it joint moves in partner =ship or are they fighting behind the scenes?

BTW do not trust Putin and his Russia: probably much of the gas wealth will end up in his personal pocket.

If these bank shares are as valuable as GIG says, why don't they just sell them for €16B...? :x

Hey presto! no need for a bailout from anyone! :D

I don't think we should sell any of our national assets, if it can be avoided. Cypriots worked hard to rebuild the economy since the 1974 invasion - and are still suffering from the loss of more than half their territorial assets.
