I am serious and I don't appreciate the accusation.

I saw the folowing

Cyprus Airways and the days of wine and roses - Cyprus Mail
http://www.cyprus-mail.com/opinions/cyprus-airways-and-days-wine-and-roses/20130411

Last week, and purely by accident, I bumped into a Cyprus Airways pilot (captain) of 20 years. We got chatting about the dusty weather, and more particularly, the veil of secrecy hanging over the future of our perpetually bankrupt national carrier. He spoke willingly and openly, even angrily about board directors who’d filched millions at the expense of the airline balance sheet and taxpayer. It seems that leasing and selling-on leased aircraft is hugely profitable, not only for the leasers, but for CA board members signing contracts on the dotted line.,,,

.....I cannot substantiate accusations of jiggery-pokery by present and past CA board members totaling millions of euros purportedly transferred into Swiss bank accounts. All I can say is that a CA pilot claims that certain CA board members have, and still are, artfully ‘maneuvering’ benefits from the leasing of aircraft, a ‘procedure’ that began many years ago and seems to be without end.

I don't think anyone would have a problem with CY staying in business if it was a profitable organisation but where it has become so unprofitable there may be little option but to tear it down and start again, but strictly on the basis of no state funding.

Yes Stud. I have also heard that board members received large payments from Airbus and leasing companies.

It does happen, but Cyprus Airways is not the only company that this occurs. You will be surprised which other airlines do the same. Boeing, Airbus, Aircraft Leasing Companies will always try to infiltrate airline boards to influence their decision making process.

I think it would be a grave error to allow Cyprus Airways to fully fold. It is akin to QANTAS, Singapore Airlines or Emirates folding. It simply should not happen. It will be the end of an era. Cyprus will never be anle to replace this airline as it will just pave the way for a low budget airline that will do nothing for Cyprus on the international stage and will be open to commercial abuse similar to what may have been occurring at Helios.

Cyprus Airways will need to be bailed out for the sake of buying time to be able to restructure and then privatise leading to more restructuring and efficiency drives so that it can stand on its own feet.

The money required to bail it out is minuscule in the scheme of things even during these hard times.

I got a flight to catch myself so bye bye! :)
