terkey is in profit net trade even with the loans, never mind the free bases it has in the med to counteract greek threat.

now when it comes to trade with the roc i hope it happens and as soon as possible after the peace agreement is signed. i will tell you this for nothing, thats when the roc will sink to the bottom of the med. the roc economy will be just tourism thats it.

once you grasp these ideas we can then open it out to discuss to your ideas too.

So you don't know who the main benefactors are in the "trnc" of the so called $1.4 Billion USD trade are.

Just as I thought.

The military was part of it, but not the main benefactors.

Try again!

So according to you, every nation Turkey trades with, specially an EU member nations, have been turned into ONLY a tourist destination economy!

Really?

Rubbish, instead of wasting money on the TCs for pensions, free medicals etc they should keep the national carrier going. Shame to close such a fantastic airline by wasting money elsewhere.
It carries the name CYPRUS worldwide!

You are deluded. The CA functions as a money pit for fat elderly trash GCs and their relatives to accumulate enormous amounts of money on the backs of your average Cypriot citizen. I'd rather do away with this obsolete organization and replace it with something cheaper, and modern.

The money going to the TCs are an entirely different matter.

Never mind the bollocks show us the evidence of what you claim, otherwise stfu.
Of course it needs to be stream lined and more efficient, but to waste money to the dark side as we do, is just plain criminal.
Many of you TCs mates would take your sovraka if they had half the chance. :D

latest news report suggest CY could be consigned to History quite soon.

There is no scope for state subsidy.

Perhaps in your world there's only CY airways and the TCs. Let's get back to the real world where there's education, medicare and other more important things to worry about.

We all know about the CY airways scandals, and the huge salaries they strived to maintain. We all know the subpar service they provided in comparison to how much they asked for a ticket. We've all been through that, so shove off.

I'd rather have that money directed towards proper education and medicare, instead of an obsolete organisation running its aged equipment on the back of Cypriot taxpayers.

I’ve lost count how many times CA was resurrected by the government and all because it’s the national carrier. They say national carriers rarely make a profit but this is ridiculous!

I think it’s high time they put enormous pressure on CA to either make it work… at least break even… or close shop once and for all.

Sorry if people's pragmatism and realism disappoints you VP... but it's over for CY Air without very major changes and most people understand that unless it changes in a BIG, BIG way, it will have to go.

Sorry Bill but this is a load of Bollocks!

CY Air is worth saving. It is the RoC's flagship carrier with lots if history and good people working for it. Did you know it was the launch airline for the the IAEV2500 engine?

Cyprus Airways needs to be restructured. They have actually consulted other airlines who came up with a restructuring plan which includes redundancies, wage freezes, and outsourcing services which will save the airline millions each year as well as entering code share alliances. It is also strongly recommended that the company be completely privatised.

Can't believe how short sighted you are.

Jobs can be saved and since our Banks are in trouble lets try and ensure CY Air remains.

The irony is that sooooo many companies want to get their hands on it; now we have a capitalist in charge it's going to be grabbed by profiteers.

Oh well, so long as it goes from strength to strength. Must be nice to be so desired. 8)

CY Air should be privatised. The Government is not capable of running this airline as a lean operation capable of profit. For years it has been used as a vehicle to employ incompetent public servants. Jobs for the boys and lots of nepotism. Added to this, the airline is held hostage by the unions who don't want the airline privatised or restructured.

Under these conditions no other airline will be willing to buy Cy Air. There have been some attempts by Lufthansa even, but they all pulled out because it is difficult to restructure with a powerful union holding everyone to ransom.

Privatisation is the only way to go if the airline is to see better days. But the unions are against it because half of Cy Air employees will be toast because they are nothing but a bunch of dead wood cronies that should have never been allowed anywhere near Cy Air.

Cy Air better do something drastic in the coming weeks, otherwise it is gone. This is very serious.

That IS rubbish!

National Carriers do make profits. It all depends on how the airline is run.

Most National Carriers these days are privatised.

Company needs to be restructured and sold off to another big airline or Cypriot Investors.
