Dejavu? or is it the bitch Karma yet again? who was it that ran CTA into the groud a few years back? Kikapooo???

CTA run itself to the ground, you fool.

What did you expect when there was approximately 150 employees per aircraft, totalling around 700 employees for the 5 aircraft in service, not to mention most of these employees and their family members were the most frequent passengers on these planes as "dead weight", as in, non fare paying freeloaders at the expense of potential fare paying passengers. Turkey finally said enough is enough and took it's planes back and cut all their cushy jobs with huge pay and benefits. Can't say I blame them really.

Airlines of all sizes are subject to have financial problems or bankruptcy at best of times, let alone how the CTA was run. CTA was just one more failed project along with the "trnc" that had been created by Turkey!

I love travelling with Cyprus Airways.

The irony is that sooooo many companies want to get their hands on it; now we have a capitalist in charge it's going to be grabbed by profiteers.

Oh well, so long as it goes from strength to strength. Must be nice to be so desired. 8)

Like every other semi-government Organisation Cyprus Airways is a money pit hole like RichardB said. So why was it kept alive all these years?
Simple:It was bringing tourists for the benefit of the hotel owners at prices below cost hence at its own loss.

I think the difference is

a. TCs wanted to keep CTA ''alive and running''

b. Most GCs realise that although CA provides a good service ..it is in fact a money pit that needs either totally restructuring under private ownership or shutting down because of the cost to the ROC

just my opinion

Good evening all

CTA was not an enterprise, but a "gravy train" for the "dead weights", an experiment Turkey created at a huge loss to make something out of nothing with the "trnc". The experiment did not work, and neither does the "trnc". Showboating to impress had a $100 million USD loss for Turkey in the end. Well, it's only money, huh!

last year terkey gave trnc 350million dolars and sold 1400 million dollars worth of trade. so you think terkey is losing money in this.

Rubbish, instead of wasting money on the TCs for pensions, free medicals etc they should keep the national carrier going. Shame to close such a fantastic airline by wasting money elsewhere.
It carries the name CYPRUS worldwide!

I feel sorry for people like you who's brain only works in a one dimensional manner and are not able to see the whole picture.

Here is a puzzle for you to try and figure out if you can.

Of the $1.4 Billion USD exports to the "trnc" from Turkey, who are the main benefactors of that trade? If these main benefactors were not in the "trnc" but were back in Turkey, Turkey would add the $1.4 Billion USD as part of their GDP. In conclusion, the "trnc" is a net loss for Turkey every year as long as it occupies the north. Imagine how much more she can trade with the RoC as a friendly neighbour, specially with the Oil and Gas going through Turkey to Europe when production starts?

The question is, can you figure out who these "main benefactors" are in the "trnc"?

A clue for you. If you said TCs, you will be wrong.

first you learn your arse from your elbow and then you give me lessons.

terkey is in profit net trade even with the loans, never mind the free bases it has in the med to counteract greek threat.

now when it comes to trade with the roc i hope it happens and as soon as possible after the peace agreement is signed. i will tell you this for nothing, thats when the roc will sink to the bottom of the med. the roc economy will be just tourism thats it.

once you grasp these ideas we can then open it out to discuss to your ideas too.
