Turkey's economy is vulnerable

The central bank couldn't hold the line if the "interest-rate lobby" really did run for the exits. In that case, Turkey would have to raise interest rates, which would damage growth. And then the economic miracle, which Erdogan has presided over and which is one of the main sources of his popularity, might look like a conjuring trick.

Lira Plunges to All-Time Low as Fed Compounds Turkish Protests

Turkey’s lira tumbled to an all-time low against the dollar and the country’s bonds and shares slumped the most among emerging markets as the U.S. Federal Reserve signaled it may scale back monetary stimulus this year.
The lira depreciated for a fourth day, weakening as much as 1.5 percent to a record 1.9315 before the central bank held two currency auctions to support it. The lira was at 1.9192 a dollar at 2:34 p.m. in Istanbul, taking its drop this month to 2.3 percent. The yield on two-year benchmark bonds surged 71 basis points to 7.52 percent, the highest since October, while the 10-year yield advanced 67 basis points to 8.06 percent

It is again today, except only now under a different conversion, which is 3TL new = 3Million TL old. That's with the GBP having lost value itself against other major world currencies in the past few years.

In simple language so that you can understand Lordo, is that the Turkish Lira is heading to the toilet......again!

Too late, the damage is done.

There should have been action to tackle that massive current account deficit months ago, instead the AKP did very little preferring to keep the economic miracle myth going... and the only way to keep the hot money that has financed the deficit is to offer higher and higher interests rates, which just isn't a sustainable way to run an economy.
