A different kind of Greek history

Postby DrCyprus » Fri Feb 22, 2013 3:30 pm

If you are interested in Hellenic history, you will find these articles fascinating. You don't learn a lot about these things at school.

First read this:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Greco-Bactrian_Kingdom

then this:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Indo-Greek_Kingdom

then this:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Greco-Buddhist_art

Because they are only passively mentioned in the school curricula, and there's always a focus on Cypriot history over the rest of the Greekdom.

Just move to Athens.

You’ll get all the Greek baloney you could ever want and then some more... just in case you don’t have manufactured fantasies coming out your rear end yet!

Apparently not! It’s the Greeks who are globally infamous for that. Where have you been?

Stud-muffin, I can see you still have the Cypriot flag (ha ha, I have the power to persuade after all) as an avatar opposed to the Jolly Roger, er, Union Jack. As a limey, maybe you can hold a moral high ground regarding colonization by expressing disgust at your own people's recent history. USA, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, the Malvinas, Gibralter and the failed attempt in South Africa, and let's not neglect the Anglo-Saxon invasion and colonization of the British Isles. 8)

Although I don't hold the modern Greek state in high regard, not many people do I'm afraid.. I've always wondered where GR's anti Greece attitudes emanate from.
When and where was the defining moment of epiphany?
