80 per cent voter turnout in Cyprus is much more than in the US. And the elections in Cyprus are more open and democratic. If the NYT wants gloom and voter apathy they should look at their own poor excuse for a democracy.

Also just in. Michalis Sarris is the new Finance Minister (and Minister for bumming Turkish rent boys). That should keep VP happy. Cassoulides is the new Foreign Minister.

Not official yet, but good news if it is true. Sarris will make a good Finance Minister (again!), and Cassoulides is a very good statesman. What they do in their spare time is not my concern, it is what they do when they are working.

I picked it up on twitter but not seen anything official either. There were rumours about Pissarides being Finance minister earlier this week. Both Sarris and Cassoulides are widely respected in the EU. I believe Cassoulides has a senior position in the right of centre political grouping in the EU. And of course Anastasiades is on very good terms with Merkel.

Also read that Anastasiades is going to push ahead with an application to join the Partnership for Peace which is a good strategy.

Is Sarris the one who Was accused of being gay in the occupied areas? If it is then I guess Cyprus went a step lower then I thought possible.
