If your the one in the middle of that photo then those must be your lucky parents. I must say your mother is looking particularly lovely this morning.

At least I know who my mother is! :D

Welcome back. The insult goes " At least I know who my father is" it does not work with mother. Nice try though.

Since when is the truth an insult?? :? :? :?

I am so glad that the Ottomans let such cultures and music not only survive in their own right but they allowed it into their own culture and I am finding more and more of it each day. Thanks mate. More please.

Sorry to disappoint you Zan,

but the song actually glorifies Delio, the hayduk, who rebelled against the ottomans. So in fact the ottomans did not only help preserve the song, they were actually the cause of its creation :-)

The Ottoman empire was very tolerant in the religious and ethnic sense as it never sought to assimilate the people, but it was very oppressive too because it was a millitary dicatorship that was very heavy handed and taxed the people exessively.

But ordinary turkish villagers were in an equally bad situation as the christian villagers, so I think the empire oppressed all people equally.

Sorry guys, Must have missed the joke. I thought you just repeated what I said in the first place. It does not matter what it was about it was still very beautiful. “Havada bulut yok” was about the poor peasants going to war for the Ottomans but it’s still a lovely song. They were of course oppressive but they kept those Greeks at bay.

Kifeas wrote:My "friend!" I chose this translation, simply because that's also how I perceived you to have come across in the forum. Namely like a Dayi! We also use this word in Greek. We say that someone behaves like a "dais" or a "kapatais," etc.

When someone behaves like a "dayi" or "dais" in Greek, he behaves like an "Uncle". But if Someone behaves like a "Kabadayi" or "kapadais" in Greek, he is very close to being a "thug". If the word "Dayi" is used after a persons name it always means "Unlce".

The funny thing is that you know all this and are still trying to justify your translation of "Dayi" as "thug". You know that, I know that and almost everyone else in this forum knows that.

Kifeas wrote:As for your other question(s,) I am not sure what you were actually asking, it was too abstract and purely sarcastic, and that is why I skipped it! You even continue to be sarcastic in your last post above by placing the word TC friends in inverted commas and yet you complain that I translated your name in the way I did. If you can put your question in a more specific and concise way, then I might be able to answer it!

hehehehe....is your middle name "worm" by any chance? Never mind, at least now I know that you are just another poster who just says things just for the sake of saying something without being able to prove his claims when challenged.

You have a nice day. I know I had a nice day yesterday after reading your reply and I am sure I will have another nice day today as well should you feel brave enough to reply to this posting.
