very simple question. in which other country in the world do the candidates standing for an election to the office of the president feel the need to have a meeting with the archbishop.

More or less in every country. Sucking up to archbishops, patriarchs, popes, dalai lamas is like the norm for politicians as the hoi polloi, generally speaking, still tend to be religious. But as a Kemalist anachronism, for whom the the norm has always been to suck up to (corrupt) military men, oblvious to the reality (no surpise here) that the Turkey of the 21st century is for its politicians to kiss the butts of imans! But of course your mindframe is still in the 90s and the hope there will be a coup in Turkey between now and the end of time and the EU will then declare you a "European" country.
