The conclusion out of this is that the "free shipping via gravity" is impossible...

what has that got to do with a price of tea. thats not where the water is coming from. the dam is being built as we speak. if they have sense they will build it high enough not only to flow unaided but give us electricity too.

as to the pressures involved, at any one point the outside pressure is the same as inside. net result is zero. you can use plastic for it.

Some more news on the water shortages in Turkey from Hurriyet today, under the headline...

" ...Minister rules out using artificial rain bombs against drought, says rain prayer ‘cheaper’ ... "

The Waterworks Minister, a great supporter of "kktc su temin projesi", has come up with a cunning and inexpensive plan .... PRAY ...!!!

" ... As Western Turkey and Central Anatolia experience one of the driest winters in recent years, Waterworks Minister Veysel Eroğlu has dismissed resorting to drastic methods such as artificial rain bombs, suggesting that prayers for rain are a more affordable option.

“We are not considering using artificial rain bombs because this does not have a significant yield,” Eroğlu said Feb. 19, noting that the technique was tested in Istanbul at the beginning of the 1990s under former Mayor Nurettin Sözen, the predecessor to Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.

“In the end, it was us who paid the bill for the rain bombs that were been unsuccessful. So this is not an option. But we can still go for rain prayers, at least that does not have any cost,” he added. ... "

Water is terribly, terribly important and this winter is proving to be one of the driest on record in CY.

Yeniduzen reporting today that the farmers ( and many of these, if not most, are Illegal Settlers ) up in the Occupied Areas are getting desperate for help cos of the drought and shortage of water.

Farmers are reporting falling incomes and a problem that they say effects the whole "country" and is leading to de-population.

One farmer who was interviewed said that if the situation continues the farming and life-stock sector is finished.

Here are the views of one farmer, for Turkish-speakers...

"... Kuraklıkla gelen zarar, ölçülemeyecek derecededir. Eğer hükümet, bu konuda bir destek planı ortaya koyar ve uygularsa, bir nebze de olsa, rahatlama yaşanabilir. Ekilen dönümlerce tarladan alınan ürün, hem yetersiz, hem de yeterli kalitede de değil. Durum böyle devam ederse, ülkede tarım ve hayvancılık sektörü son bulur. ..."

Water is also terribly important in Turkey and it gets more and more important as the winter drought effecting the eastern Med continues.

Today's Zaman has more on the drought in Turkey, under the headline...

Low rainfall keeping İstanbul dry into hot summer, say analysts

"... Precipitation levels have fallen dramatically in İstanbul and are almost at zero in a time when they normally peak, causing analysts to worry that the city will still be dealing with drought on it ways into a scorching summer.
As of Feb. 28, fill rates in İstanbul's reservoirs were at 29.84 percent, the lowest in 10 years, daily-updated data of the İstanbul Waterworks Authority (İSKİ) show. Analysts, pointing to the possible high temperatures this coming summer, are calling on policymakers to take steps to control water consumption, alleviate the hardships of drought in the coming months and raise awareness about the perils of an unusually dry season.

They also warn that the declining water levels of Melen River, which is the main source for tap water in İstanbul, does not bode well for the city.

Furthermore, analysts find the situation even bleaker because the first five months of this year's water calendar, which starts on Oct. 1, are known as being the most fertile in terms of precipitation, but they saw almost no rainfall. ..."

The water shortages in Turkey feature again today.

This from Hurriiyet which warns of the effects on food and electricity production as well...

"... High temperatures and a lack of rain are fueling fears over agricultural production and energy prices, as Western and Central Anatolia experience one of the driest winters in recent years.

Water levels in dams and humidity levels have dropped to alarming levels, with the temperature across Turkey hovering around 10 degrees Celsius above the average and rain and snowfall levels remaining far below seasonal averages. ..."

The weather report from 11 Dec 2012.

Heavy Rain Hits Mersin, Floods Houses.

Some of the areas have been flooded due to torrential rain in the southern province of Mersin. Heavy rain has also resulted in sewer blockage; and sewage water flooding in some houses.

Lashing out to municipal teams, most of the citizens had to discharge flood water out of their homes with their own means. A mother, claiming that her children got infected due to sewage water, said "We called the teams but they do not come. Even if they come, they just clean and go."

Apart from this, drivers stranded in traffic because streets were filled up with floodwater. The police has rescued people stuck in their places with an armored car. Also a child who got a fever was taken to the hospital by police teams with the ambulance.

As I’ve said before, sometimes you have drought, sometimes dry weather, sometimes wet weather, sometimes floods. It averages out which is why you have dams.
