Hardly a month goes by without the completion date for "project of the century" or the It's Had More Completion Dates Than We've Had Hot Dinners "kktc su temin projesi" being pushed back again.

Much has been made by "trnc" this week about the arrival of a ship at the port in Occupied Famagusta (presumably from China), loaded, it is claimed, with 10,000 tonnes of steel pipes.

The story that's spun for the benefit of the Mushrooms is that these steel pipes are for "project of the century" and of course they lap it up, almost wanting to believe that steel pipes will float on water.

What "trnc" won't publicise however are two remarkable figures...

1. The NYT article above tells us that 92% of water used in the Occupied Areas comes from abstraction from the aquifers up there. That's a huge percentage, which explains the fecked-up aquifers and what is a desperate water supply problem.

2. A situation which is made even worse by the lack of maintenance. The EU in their assessment of the water situation report that Two-Thirds, 66 frigging per cent of the water in the "trnc" supply system, under Turkey's Occupation on the Cheap, is lost through leakage.

We also know that a good deal of the EU Assistance Programme is going in to fixing this dilapidated system ... so who is paying for this work, who has come up with the money for 10,000 tonnes of steel pipes as well as their installation...??? "trnc" which is trying to claim the credit or the EU. ...??? (Mushrooms need not answer that question).
