Lemoncy.eu reporting that opposition is growing to this alleged project.
"NICOSIA - Turkish Cypriots are now reacting with graffiti against the statement of the Turkish Forestry and Waterworks Minister Veysel Eroğlu that "we will connect the "trnc" and the motherland through an umbilical cord”.
"...According to a news report in Havadis, unidentified persons wrote "That cord will be cut off" on the walls in many neighbourhoods in Nicosia.
Mr. Eroğlu had recently defined the project to bring water from Turkey to the northern part of Cyprus as “connecting the "trnc" and the motherland through an umbilical cord.” The 80-kilometre pipeline will run under the sea and transport 75 million cubic metres of water annually from Turkey to a dam near Kyrenia.
Also, Yenidüzen reported that the Biologists Association in the northern part of Cyprus has published a statement expressing concern regarding to project. The Association stated that the water project is an 'ecological intervention', or rather an 'ecological coup', which will do more harm than benefit and destroy nature.
"As a result of this project, nature will suffer significant losses and the ecosystem will be destroyed," read the statement. "Nature has already been damaged, trees have been cut and slopes have been shaven," because of this project the Association pointed out. "Construction machines are destroying endemic types, orchids and tulips (...) Or is the so-called 'Project of the Century' a project that targets our assets?"
The Biologists Association also underlined that the project is illegal since there is no legal framework for such undertakings. Also no relevant permissions have been granted by the Turkish Cypriot "authorities" and no environmental impact assessment has been carried out. The Association stated that the water at Mia Milia plant could be treated, which could solve the water scarcity problem in an easier and cheaper way..."

"We don’t want to be fed through an umbilical cord"
"...NICOSIA – The Turkish Cypriot Teachers Union (KTÖS) criticised recent statements of the Turkish Forestry and Waterworks Minister, saying that Turkish Cypriots want to live in a united Cyprus standing on their own feet and embracing their own socio-cultural values.
Turkish Forestry and Waterworks Minister Veysel Eroğlu, had recently defined the project to bring water from Turkey to the northern part of Cyprus as “connecting the TRNC and the motherland through an umbilical cord.”
In a statement it published, KTÖS underlined that Turkish Cypriots are struggling for their communal existence. “Turkish Cypriots, who have been rendered a minority in their homeland, are having serious problems in their struggle to protect their own identities, sustain their own social and cultural values and protect their secular and modern character in the face of the assimilation and integration policies imposed by Ankara and its local collaborators,” read the statement.
KTÖS underlined that the northern part of Cyprus have become a money-laundering paradise with casinos, nightclubs and bet offices. On the other hand, a social engineering is being carried out to turn Turkish Cypriots, who are modern, secular, kind and tolerant, into a community that is superstitious, grateful and bigoted, said KTÖS. ..."
