this is an interesting question, Lordo (or any other member) can you give us the answer?

Well let the "foreigner' known as BillC tell you that water for agriculture is subsidised in the Free Areas where it is charged at around 10 cents per tonne...!!!

(Many farmers will of course have access to their own boreholes where it costs zero, after installation and maintenance costs.)

Suspect a similar price is charged to farmers in the Occupied Areas.

10 Cents a tonne...!!!

Now compare 10 cents a tonne with the estimates of euros per tonne from Pyro and Nik for the pipe-dream "project of the century"... and with the several Oz Dollars a tonne when a similar water transport over the sea project was costed in Oz and not progressed for the high cost of water it would provide.

Now another question springs to mind...

Just who are the Farmers in the Occupied Areas who are so short of water after decades of reckless and unsustainable over-abstraction...??? What group of people are these "farmers"...???

Bill, according to this article, it will cost 40 Euro cents per cubic meter (approx 1 ton) for the water to be piped in from Turkey, 4 times higher than your above figures. That's why I was saying to VP, that the north will grow the most expensive cucumbers that no one will want to buy.

A water pipeline project connecting Turkey with northern Cyprus could solve the island's persistent water supply problem, but its impact on stalled negotiations between the Turkish and Greek parts of the island will be marginal, experts told SETimes.

The Turkish government will finance the project, which will cost about 527,000 euros (1.12 billion TL). Cyprus will then have to pay 0.40 euros (about .90 kuruş) per cubic metre of water that will be transported to the island.

It's got to be piped in first before it can become the most expensive water!

Oh no, no, no... we're putting this "project of the century" to bed once and for all. We've had quite enough of the propaganda from "trnc" on this one for the past twenty years...

... especially as only yesterday the deputy PM of Turkey visited his Occupied Thiefdom and repeated the mega-claims about "project of the century".

... so we go on.

40 cents for just coming here and be thrown in a damn.
Then come the costs for treating it to become potable/usable for human consumption.
Then the costs for pumping it around e.g to bring it to Nicosia they have to pump it at 348m over Konelli....

Not happy with this figure of 40 cents a tonne... after all it's come out of "trnc" or Turkey.

This is a simple app for working out the electricity cost of pumping water ...
