The water transported by tankers does not go raw to consumers, it goes through the city water system just like water from any source. Even the cleanest river contains dying animals and all kinds of potentially harmful microorganisms.

The report of piple breakages is interesting. It was the first thing that came to mind when the suspended pipeline was announced. Suspended and subject to constant flux of multidirectional forces. It could not have been that much more costly to rest it on the seabed. It will be interesting to see this thing work and see how it holds up under load.

Don't know what to make of this incident.

The story goes that a couple of CYs, building inspectors of the "municipality" up there, have been arrested and kidnapped by "police" for trying to stop what is described as an illegal construction by a Turkish firm, a manhole, in a river bed in Occupied Kioneli.

The claim is that the work is associated with "su temin projesi", but then again anytime a hole is dug anywhere in the Occupied Areas it comes with a claim that it is a part of Flop of the Century.

Here's what a trades unionist has to say on the matter... (from KP) ...

"... Turkish Cypriot Teachers Union GS Sener Elcil has criticised the action at the Gonyeli municipality where two employees were taken into questioning after they tried to prevent a manhole being constructed in the river bed.

Elcil in a written statement argued that despite pledging to protect Turkish Cypriot laws, Turkish authorities did not even respect those laws. He said that respecting those laws and regulations meant applying to the local council for a permit to construct a manhold in Gonyeli.

Elcil added getting the local council inspectors arrested showed the respect Turkish authorities had for them. ... "
