One angle in the news in the press of the Occupied Areas on the clashes at the weekend's protest up in the Karpas is of a struggle between CYs and the Illegal Settlers who have been moved in to the area over the years.

The mainland Turkish Hurriyet gives this analysis...

“...While the police interfered in the tension between the demonstrators and the people, the situation was further heated up when few local newspapers gave the news as ‘tension between people from Turkey and Cypriots’, because the majority of the people living in the area are people that came to the island from Turkey after 1974. After environmentalist activists of the New Cyprus Party (YKP) had opened a placard saying ‘governor, take your hands off our peninsula’, referring to the Embassy of Turkey, the peasants of Karpasia rose up and closed the road. While a group of newspapers described the incident as tension between people from Turkey and Cypriots..."

When it says "peasants of Karpasia" it actually means settlers. And then we have VP telling us they have normal relations with them. As if we are stupid, as if our Kibrisli friends tell us lies.!

Bill did you notice the "police hahaha-police hahaha" called those demonstrators "Greeks"? Why do you think?

But then again what would you expect from a regime where even to organize the simplest thing you need permission? Permission to clean GC commentaries, permission to make liturgy in your churches, permission for this permission for that..

...they (who benefit from the regime) close "their" road to their own people, such a zeal for "progress" (read:money); Cypriots are closed out if they are not "Turkish" enough, this is becoming apparent. and in less than a few years, elections, before the bubble bursts maybe, it will be Turkey cut loose from the EU, and not Cyprus.

Yes indeed file on both counts... the word "peasants" is the translation, claims that there were "greeks" in the demo are rubbish oh ... and a third one for good measure...

...and most damning of all, more evidence of something we all know, except the porky and a quarter-of-the truth-telling VP, that the relations between the CYs and the now Majority Illegal Settlers are very, very poor.

in a more serious note just hoping that you will wake up. if you look at the laws that the roc have implemented since 1963 makes it impossible to unite. all the laws passed since 1963 will have to be repealed. as this is unlikely the tcs only have two choices at the moment. either independent or part of turkey. and looking at the toys you boys have been buying terkey looks more enticing by the day. unfortunately for you only tcs will have a say in that. you have bugger all to do with that decision.
