The fact that he believes that policies against immigrants are the main way to solve the problems in Cyprus. The policies he proposes would only help to save peanuts compared to our debt and would damage the image of Cyprus internationally something which would negatively affect us in every way (tourism, foreign investments, Cyprus Problem etc).

So why would somebody propose such policies that would result in a net loss for Cyprus? The only answer is that he (and ELAM in general) are blinded by racism, and can not realize what the interests of Cyprus really are.

Cyprus could change its immigration policy, but this is something that should be done carefully and thoughtfully in accordance to EU norms, and not something to shout about with xenophobic slogans.

I watched the interview and I should say that this guy was at least quite sincere. He even admitted that ELAM are basically uneducated simpletons. He is mostly right in what he said about the big parties and the politicians but if the establishment is going to be replaced this should be done with something better, not uneducated racist simpletons who would cause to Cyprus far more damage.

We could start by following the example of the UK. They cleverly highlight the financial burden of having illegal immigrants which exhaust the welfare system and the health services. These "sad facts" are carefully orchestrated to coincide with any closure of wards or cuts in NHS funding. They also highlight the competition to domestic jobs by the presence of economic migrants when mention is made of professionals who are unable to get jobs after graduating.

Even though the UK's immigration problem is not as bad as that of Cyprus (and Greece) they make it seem worse than it is and receive a bonus in support from the public by making out the government's' job is harder than it is, or economic problems are worse than they are because of immigrants and not because of other domestic problems.

It's all done in an "Oh woe is us; always single-handedly helping others!" kind of attitude.

In a democratic society anyone can stand.

Unlike terrorist countries like Turkey where you are thrown in jail because you disagree with the government.

So, direct your comments to the Raving monster luny party in the UK. At least ELAM are looking out for their own.

Last night AKEL's MP Loukaides admitted that the increasing unemployment problem Cyprus is now facing could be easily solved if immigrants were restricted from obtaining work permits. All of a sudden the government realised that this is one of the primary reasons so many Cypriots are currently unemployed. Obviously, this is because ELAM has raised the issue.

Tourism and foreign investments are only beneficial if the money is going to people's pockets and not just the so called 'elite'.

You don't have the slightest idea of EU policies. Foreigners from EU can only get employment if there is a need for additional workers, and not on the expense of local workforce. Almost every country in the EU has enforced restrictions on work permits. Read and learn...

Spain has been given the green light by the EU executive to tighten restrictions on Romanian workers as it struggles with the highest unemployment in the 27-nation block.
