Bill, you're more Cypriot than most Cyp's.
It's dedicated to those who gave a sh** then, and those who give a sh** now.
Blood has nothing to do with it.

Don't matter.

I salute the 'Brits' who organize the beach clean ups, where no locals could be bothered.
I salute the 'Brits' who organize the charity shops for the less fortunate, working in falling apart, dilapidated buildings where no locals could be bothered.
I salute the 'Brits' who organize the dog and pet shelters, rescuing abandoned dogs and animals.

I've lived these people.
They're also true Cypriots carrying 'British' passports. I wasn't born yesterday dude, I see what's happening.

Very nice sentiments, Cap, from a newcomer "Cyp" who doesn't know Cyprus' continuity. Please don't be so quick to condemn the Cypriots purely from the stories you hear from these Brits you seek favour from.

I remember my dad sorting out our village beach (bringing rocks to stem erosion) in the early 60s once the Brits gave us a little freedom to improve our country. I remember my dad helping build one of the first dams in the mid-60s, which was prevented from being built all through the 50s by the Brits who were intent on keeping the natives impoverished. I remember a Cyprus where charity shops were never needed because families looked after each other. I remember a Cyprus where foreigners hadn't introduced gambling, drugs, drinking in the streets, killing each other in bar brawls. etc etc etc

- I know changes are inevitable but I'm not going to rush to thank those who stalled my country's progress and then changed it just to suit themselves. London has been improved by immigrant Cypriots much more ...

Perspective, lad!

If the Anglo Americans can do it. So can we.
Via merit of course.

Interesting:

The Turkish Authorities were not interested in improving the local health of the population because they used to get tax income for every dead Greek citizen. Only just before the British occupation the Turks decided to build a quarantine facility. At the time, there were also plans to create the post of a municipal doctor. The major cities of Cyprus were full of prostitutes to cater for the needs of the newly arrived British soldiers. This led to an increase of sexually transmitted diseases. The municipalities used to keep a record and photographs of the prostitutes, asking them to have frequent medical examinations.

It's because you are weak. Only true Hellenes can live by Hellenic ideals. The rest can hide under British or neo-pseudo-Cypriot identities.

I admire your honesty, but I also detest your cowardness.
