Turkey plans to build the first domestic aircraft carrier, a project of which has been developed over ten years, the Sabah newspaper reported.

The project, named the Landing Platform Dock (LPD), entails the construction of a 220-meter-long military base on the water and is expected to cost $3 billion. However, since the Turkish Armed Forces (TSK) currently do not have any planes that are capable of vertical take-off and landing, the project will initially be used as a helicopter ship. The first Turkish-made aircraft carrier will reportedly be modeled on the Juan Carlos I (L-61) belonging to Spain, which visited İstanbul last year.

Turkey's first national aircraft carrier is expected to be equipped with a system that enables non-stop sailing for 30 days and 1,700 nautical miles. Its hangar and elevator systems will be constructed compatible with the JSF (Joint Strike Fighter) planes which can take off and land vertically that Turkey will acquire in the coming years. It will also be able to carry up to 100 tracked military vehicles. In the pool section of the aircraft carrier, two LCAC (landing craft air cushion) hovercraft boats will be located.

Cyprus is not for changing by Turks. Cyprus IS the Republic of Cyprus-EU. Is Turkey going to declare war on the EU now?

Halil, why dont you want to stop the AKP's and the puppets in the TTTC, who claim that northern Cyprus is Turkish then? Why are you trying to Turkify it and alter the country's demographics? Cyprus is Aphrodites island, not Attila the Seljuk hun's and Turks or islamic converts have no right to invade this space and Turkify it to stop anything.

Turkey should be stopped and disintegrated and people like you should either be hung for treason or shipped off to your new anatolian state.

halil what does it mean when it says domestic. is it only going to have a kitchen.

you come here announcing such news frightening our bash patriots do death. just think how many vragas will have to make it to the cleaners now. actually you may be doing the banana republic a favour, this may increase trade. i gather the nerthern dry cleaners are now doing special deal on acounts of volume of work required.

er er try the incursions of Alexander the Great and e'g. the more recent Greeco-Turkish war of 1921-1923.

Rather interesting (and and point which may well bear comparison with other places ) is that though the Greek speaking Anatolian residents who were reportedly a minorirty group in every area of Anatolia (in Izmir they were apparently about 36% of the total in 1910) the Greek Government demanded territorial control and it woud surely be hyprotical to condemn he ilegal Turkish Occupation of the Northern part of the Republic of Cyprus (as I unreservedly do) without condemning similar historical events...
