The Eurobarometer September–October 2006 survey shows that 59% of EU-27 citizens are against Turkey joining the EU, while only about 28% are in favour. Furthermore, according to the Transatlantic Trends survey for 2012, 53% of Turks have an unfavorable view of the European Union membership for Turkey.

So repsectively, I am one of those 59% of Europeans and 53% of Turks (the majority) who share that same unfavourbale view towards Turkey's membership to the block. So yes, in my opinion, along with the majority of Turkish opinion, the EU is stupid to continue this charade with a country that has proven time and time again that she is incapable of meeting the qualification criteria but chooses to blame the EU for her own shortcomings and issues threats to gain her membership instead.

In an unprecedented statement, the Turkish Minister for EU affairs Egemen Bagis openly threatened Cyprus and Europe (a day or so ago) if they dare to test the validity of the Turkish Army. According to a dispatch from newsit, Bagis, did not hesitate to even threaten the Cypriot Ambassador in the presence of the Irish Parliament. It needs to be noted that Ireland’s EU term presidency is set to start as of January 1, 2013.

Specifically, Bagis said that no one "should challenge the military capabilities of Turkey, distancing it from the EU" and that "if Turkey's military power is provoked, Cyprus and Europe will regret it."

WOW, I mean just WOW, what can you say about Turkey's attitude. I am shocked at this latest remark. The European union should just put them out of their misery and suspend their application for membership. How much sh*t will Europe take? I am shoked that they are still even considerring this candidacy. if this is how the Turkeys behave outside of the union, I dare to think what the union will be like and how they will behave when/if they accede. In my opinion, its a complete joke, and the union lacks a lot of self respect to take this crap.

Yes, we have seen Turkey's military power after Israel killed 9 Turks on Mavi Marmara in International waters and after Syria shot down Turkish F-4 war plane killing 2 pilots, claimed by Turkey to have been in International waters.

should turkey behaved like israel did. went in to rescue 2 soldiers and lost over a hundred and countless tanks. and still did not rescue the two soldiers.

are you seriously suggesting that turkey should have attacked israel after the marmara incident. have you lost your mind. to what purpose so thousands more could be killed. what kind of bloody blood thirsty swine are you.

regarding the plane which was shot down on syrian airspace, are you suggesting she should have attacked syria.

but dont you worry your little head my fanatic friend. when the going gets tough i know who i can trust.

As I remember, it was Erdogan who was giving speeches on how he was going to stop Israel on the high seas from ever stopping another ship going to Gaza and that he would be on the next boat Gaza bound, followed by the Turkish Navy, and that how he was going to teach his good old friend Assad a lesson when the time came for downing a Turkish military jet in International waters. At least you accept that the jet was shot in Syrian airspace, unlike Erdogan, still claims it was in International waters. So, "Where's the Beef"!

On the point of countries going to war and losing soldiers, most of these countries go to war and lose soldiers that is based on convictions. I have stated before, that Turkey has a habit of not doing anything out of conviction, but rather being an opportunist instead. Libya and Syria are prime examples. If you want to go back a little further, WWII comes to mind.

or is it Turkey who is clever?

she transgresses
there is evidence of this
she is the aggressor and violator
its still the other persons fault
they have to apologies
its the other persons fault
she makes threats
has no reason, logic completely backwards
she has a huge military to terrorize you into submission with
she has no humility, she makes more threats
its still the other persons fault,
they have no honor and cant be right, turkey is always right
Turkey has problems will all her neighbors
she is the victim
Turkey has no friends and isolates herself.
Its the other persons fault, be my friend and accept me and give me what I want.
she is belligerent and intransigent and makes more threats to be her friend or to give her what she wants
they have to apologies and accept my transgressions she says
dont tell the truth, she will bluster some more
she makes threats, its the other persons fault.
she will teach them another lesson,
she violates and transgresses,
there is evidence of this
its the other persons fault........she makes threats.
Turkey has a problem with all her neighbors
she is a giant and powerful victim
she cant leave them be, she hangs on to her neighbors ankles while they all try to desperately get away.
she makes more threats, demonstrates more low value behavior, propaganda a lies are her tools
Turkey is chasing after everyone,
its their fault they are running away
she is the victim and starts flexing her muscles
she will teach them all a lesson
Turkey has a problem.

are you not one of those 53% of Turks ( who agree with me ) that have an unfavorable view of Turkey joining the EU? or do you actually want to join the EU now?

Turkey has to jump through the same hoops as everyone else did and she must achieve certain standards to be eligible, she has to open and close all the chapters. Some of the standards are intangibles and cannot be quantified, such as codes of conduct and what others consider as respectable and acceptable behavior.

on one side Turkey wants to join the EU without proving she is compatible or eligible and on the other side the EU has to give her what she wants and it is little Cyprus's fault that Turkey is violating international law? This is a balanced viewpoint but it is a frighteningly unbalance situation.

Every one knows my views on Turkeys entry into the EU, they do not need the EU and will never enter, they know this but have to pay lip service to showing an interest so as not to lose foreign investment. You judge Turkey on todays standards but a Turkey in 10-15 years time will be far better off than the EU which is crumbling as we speak. Now we must differentiate between the EU barometers which can change over time and your racist biased views against Turkey, you are unable to produce balanced arguments as you hate Turkey for thumping the GC bullies that was beating the shit out of the TCs.

load of tosh, I hope Turkey does live up to my vision of her in 10-15 years time, she has a lot of potential and I am following her but I dont like the way she is going and I am not inspired either. those barometers can change though but that is down to Turkey.

You are not the right person to judge Turkey as you are racist, full of hatred against anything Turkish which makes you totally biased making anything you say null and void against, in other words worthless. Turkey in 10-15 will no longer need the EU which will continue to try and prop up ailing economies like yours Greece Spain Ireland etc etc.

Look Maxi we are both prime examples of why we cannot unite, we are incompatible so forcing union will only bring severe problems with it, as we experienced in the past. Living side by side as we have been doing for the last 38 years is the only way we can both have what we want, we should concentrate on finding solutions for those that have lost out, we should address their concerns and compensate them for their loss, the IPC is just one example if used well could solve many of the property disputes.

I am not forcing union, a lot of GC would be a lot more flexible in accepting a negotiated partition, its just the property issue and territorial adjustment that needs to be agreed upon to form the new Kibrisli Republic. just find out who owned what prior to the invasion and divide it up accordingly so that everyone more or less gets back what was taken from them at today's values. a 18% : 82% split would probably be close to the mark.

Others speak for themselves though and i still dont think that partition Cyprus is right.
