...everything is cyclical, and one thing about democracy, it's leardership changes, naturally. it may be that the Cypriots allowed their leadership to play agressively with their money in finacial markets, so too others, as this is an epic story, at least in the world of Occidentals.

...early to reap, early to sow, this may be a boon, exposed, the muck turned over so that the seeds in the good earth can grow.

...i have said it before, and there is no reason to believe that any other European is different to another, nor to an American, or Australian for that matter, the Universal Principals on which these States are founded is sound, it is "Greeks", "Turks" and "Brits" amongst us, who ignore that the Republic is more than a Greek state, or, not a Turkish state, they spew their form of hatred with its sense of entitlement which excludes "others" so that "they" have as a rightful adversary a say, not Individuals as a part of a greater Humanity, but as Persons, as though their lives as Individuals, as Cypriots, can be denied.

"Greek" Cypriots are lucky to learn in this manner that their mythic reality has gone bust, because as Greeks they can find in being Cypriot a chance to be even closer to their money. "Turks" on the otherhand who are Cypriot do not have this luxury, they have no money, depending on the handouts of the "motherland", soon to be sold as property to private interests. in general, it may be that once again, Europe will be grateful to learn from Greeks, with their handling of their "Greeks", Turkey too is not immune to the desperate bubbles that form when an elite sense that their plunder cannot go on forever. one hopes for all Cypriots, that they come to realise how frail all great States can become when divided, and that afterall, as Cypriots they can be Free, where they live on an island which has been at the crossroad of many moments throughout History itself.

I think Cyprus' response was the right one. It precipitated action by the Germans to make real efforts to save the euro.

Let's not forget why Cyprus and Greece are in the EU. It's not to make money but to garner support against Turkey. If we hadn't joined the EU when we did, Turkey would have invaded the whole island within months after the Annan Plan was discredited.

Maybe there is some inherent political message in what mouflonrouge has pointed out - that Cyprus is handing over to Ireland (another beleaguered foreign-pillaged euro-zone country).

phew. that's a relief.
can you imagine what a mess the island would be in if the response had been the wrong one?
