Billionaire investor and Democratic megadonor George Soros has committed $1 million to the main super PAC supporting President Barack Obama, an aide to the group said, a move that could encourage the party’s richest backers to make similar donations during the last weeks of the campaign.

Along with the donation to the super PAC, Priorities USA Action, Mr. Soros will also give $500,000 to super PACs supporting Democratic congressional candidates, according to a personal familiar with the donations.
