Ramazan Noyan Culum (centre, left) sailed 2,500 miles from Turkey to Britain in a tiny yacht (left) to try and track down 'holiday sweetheart' Courtney Murray (centre, right), whom he met in Cyprus in 2005. He managed to negotiate rough seas and poor mental and physical health to reach Britain, only to be arrested by border patrols. As the map (right) shows, his route took him from Bodrum in Turkey through the Adriatic and Mediterranean Seas, through the Strait of Gibraltar and around the coast of Spain. He then weathered storms in the Bay of Biscay to reach the English Channel. Culum, who used to be the CEO of a mobile phone games company, was served by Murray, believed to be from Liverpool, in a restaurant where she worked in Cyprus.
