Also in the CM:

Turkey reportedly looking to end bankrolling of north

TURKEY WANTS to stop bankrolling the regime in the north by introducing a series of privatisations in key sectors, it was reported yesterday.

According to Turkish Cypriot press, the Turkish diplomat stationed in the north, Halil Ibrahim Akca, called for a reduction of the financial assistance given by Turkey to the Turkish Cypriots.

The diplomat reportedly spoke about the need to redirect the hundreds of thousands of dollars in Turkish aid given annually to the breakaway regime from paying the salaries of public sector workers to investment and growth in the private sector.

Akca said Ankara will no longer finance airports, electricity production, telecommunications and the ports in the north, instead encouraging their privatisation.

He further highlighted that when Ankara hears of Turkish Cypriots spending money south of the buffer zone in the government-controlled areas, this makes the Turkish government more reluctant to continue propping up the regime.

...trouble ahead for all Cypriots. it is a cynical ploy to reward more cronies, what with their "friendships" with Companies, International in scope and successfully based on their integrity. indeed, Turkey is selling out the so called Turkish Cypriot Heritance from under them, only more corruption from an illegal state that goes along with the idea that Cyprus somehow "belongs" to them. indeed, breaking it up, so to speak, into smaller pieces, will make it more complex, (and costly) to reunite, or to prosper; Cyprus is not just Property. i hope this pushing will go too far, frankly. it is a good time for Turks who love this island to represent themselves, if in reality "Turkishness" is not enough, because it will be a Turkish Company that will be collecting the money for the Turkish water they will pay to drink.

Ironic that after 441 years (1571-2012) of priviledge for the TCs is about to be brought to a crashing end by their motherland.

After the failure to get the Annan plan through by Turkey that meant that the GCs would then bankroll the parasites, the Turks have at least left it for 8 years before dropping this bombshell on the hapless TCs.

I guess all good things eventually come to an end. :(
