Precisely because we 'have' the UN, plus our own troops and alliances, we surely do not need the British troops in Cyprus for any useful purpose (to Cyprus). The British troops are not here for defence, or the good of Cyprus. Why are they here? They are here by force. Remnants of colonialism and enslavement.

In contrast, the UN are made up of people from over 100 countries and should be used for defensive reasons not attack and invasion of other countries (as are the British troops in Cyprus and elsewhere). Although the UN forces could use further refinement and improvements in their methods, on the whole they do not attract the type of behaviour the British troops abroad do (even it seems, unfortunately, from their own people).

Exactly the response I expected from you...

Your bigotry and spite blind you to anything other than Cyprus and Greece...

My point was that UN troops are deployed world-wide but your sweeping statement insisted that "All troops abroad should go back to their homelands!"...

You should think before you type...

Are you suggesting that the British troops in Cyprus are equivalent to the UN's presence? What is "abroad" for the United Nations? Just like you cannot cope with having a United Europe, you seem unable to appreciate the United Nations' forces. Back to 'divide and rule'!

Yeah, it would be great not to have need of the UN's presence; but until Turkish and British troops go back to their homelands, we have to have some policing against their presence.

No, I'm suggesting you engage your brain before typing "All troops abroad should go back to their homelands!" as that statement must clearly include UN troops based here and other trouble spots around the world...

And I'm suggesting that you learn the difference between what "British troops" in Cyprus means i.e they are abroad and NOT at home!!!! Then, tell me what UNITED NATIONS means if not of this united nation, paid for by the RoC!

You can't see beyond your bigotry can you...?

You said that "All troops abroad should go back to their homelands!". That would surely include the foreign (not just the British) UN troops that are here... I did a lot of work with the Argentinian UN contingent - lovely people...

But you would send them home...

If you could take your blinkers off for a short while you might be able to make a coherent argument...

The UN peacekeeping force, by its very definition, is not "foreign" unless you happen to live on another planet!

They are our global policemen. We (RoC) pay them to be here!

http://www.cyprusun.org/

They belong to us. We are them. They are not "foreign" in terms of dismissal. But, it would be nice if we didn't have to have this extra expenditure simply because belligerent British Troops and Turkish troops wreck havoc on our soil.

Pardon me....

So those Argentinian UN forces... um, they are natives of Cyprus then...?

So, they are not troops on foreign soil...? They live here all the time...? Apart from when they return to Argentina...?

Let's face it... supporttheunderdog was right - in your cynical attempt to politicize this unfortunate issue you have painted yourself in a corner once again.... You are forced to try and defend the indefensible!

and as I pointed out that includes 183 British troops at the last count, who are here on secondment to the UN and are not a part of the British forces who are based in the SBA which as matters stand by virtue of treaty are not part of the ROC and wherefore the troops are NOT in illegal but currently legal occupation of those parts of the Island forming the SBA. Not a good state of affairs I grant you and one which should be changed

In that respect everyone is being very judgemental about the soldier but there is little I have seen which shows excrtly what happened, where As to Lordo's comments it is not just Soldiers and booze that do not mix, but young people and booze generally that can be a recipe for trouble. Unfortunately Agia Napa seems to attract more than enough drunken British Trash, who I wish would stay in the UK.

Further examples of British colonialism above.

So, whilst the British troops are colonially imprinting their presence, for free, and uninvited on Cypriot soil, the UN forces who work for a United force, paid for by the RoC and who collaborate as a UNITED front are described by these "divide and rule" remnants (stud and cg) as "Argentinian" (hated by GB) or whatever, when in reality they are UNITED!!!!!,

Oi, GIG, wind yer neck in you ignorant racist bigot. One of the nicest guys I have met is former Argentinian Soldier who settled in Cyprus following a stint with the UN, and where in ths thread have I otherwise made rude remarks about the UN contingent, or any part thereof. of which the British forces, along with the Argentinians, provide a significant part, 193 British troops and i understand 212 Argentinian soldiers.

You will also no doubt be aware that I am in favour of the abolition of the SBA, which I have frequently described as an anachronism.

They are NOT "British Forces" whilst in the UNITED NATIONS you Imperialist brute.

It is INTERNATIONAL. For world peace. Every country is represented (except the "Vatican").

International means they belong everywhere!
