Police warn over Apple Maps error

Inaccuracies in Apple Maps could be "life-threatening" to motorists in Australia's searing heat, police have warned.

Officers in Mildura, Victoria, said they had had to assist drivers stranded after following the software's directions.

Some of the drivers had had no food or water for 24 hours.

Apple's software was heavily criticised by users when it was released in September.

Last week, chief executive Tim Cook admitted Apple had "screwed up" and was working to improve the program.

Google Chairman Says Android Winning Mobile War With Apple

Google Inc. (GOOG)’s Android is extending its lead over Apple Inc. (AAPL) in the mobile-software market at a rate that compares with Microsoft Corp. (MSFT)’s expansion in desktop software in the 1990s, Google Chairman Eric Schmidt said.

Booming demand for Android-based smartphones is helping Google add share at the expense of other software providers, Schmidt said yesterday in an interview at Bloomberg’s headquarters in New York. Android snared 72 percent of the market in the third quarter, while Apple had 14 percent, according to Gartner Inc. Customers are activating more than 1.3 million Android devices a day, Schmidt said.

I'm still loving my tablet as you ask!

My sister bought one too - perhaps that is why Apple is down...

There’s no tablet in this size range that’s as beautifully crafted, works as flawlessly, or has such an incredible software selection. Like the man said, if you want to save a few dollars then go buy a cheap-ass tablet. If you want quality then get yourself an iPad mini...

How is the tablet doing?

I must admit the ipad mini is a nifty bit of kit but I am not so much of an Apple fanboy that I would discourage anyone from Android. I would certainly prefer something with removable storage e.g. SD card. If I was buying for myself I would possibly have looked at a 7 inch Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 or similar but gift horse and gob came to mind.

The honest answer is that it packed-up!

However, the vendor sent a brand new replacement very quickly and I continue to be amazed by it...

My wife was admitted to hospital yesterday so I copied a load of movies, TV series and music to the SD card and took it in for her... it is just things like that that make the tablet experience very impressive... I'm still thrilled with it in spite of the hardware issue and for the price (£160) I think it was a bargain...

BTW I find the 10" display much more usable than the 7" on my first Android tablet...
