If we go down that route our choice will be apps driven as we will principally be wanting specialist apps suitable for our girlie with a PDD, and at the moment that probably means iPod. I am not sure about win apps but with win8 and the Surface coming out (the full blown version not RT) that might be an alternative to conisder.
we do business with a few special schools and they all opted for the ipad, coz of the apps...with all it's limitations...this market is not static, it's dynamic, meaning do not be surprised in a couple of years to be using something else...
pesronally today i would opt for the android because of the OTG features...microsoft would be ok, but app shortage is keeping it down, more of business tablet in todays world...also same with the win 8 pro version due in Jan...rumour has it microsoft will release a phone as well at the same time...
http://www.theregister.co.uk/2012/11/02/microsoft_phone_do_it/as i said microsoft's solution today is towards business, but with the inclussion of an xbox tablet to the family sometime next year the ball game will change...
http://www.theregister.co.uk/2012/11/07/microsoft_tests_xbox_surface_gaming_tablet/the decline of apple dominance has already started, apart from the obvious, it's share price, microsoft and intel want the lot...the fact microsoft is gone direct the first time in it's history is a telling sign...Intel on the other hand is sitting outside on all this but they are busy trimming their chipsets to combat ARM processors...in the meantime all microsoft partners are crying foul...with ACER the most vocal of the group...not to mention microsoft by-passed it's own distributors as well...
Microsoft's plans and future growth is the mobile market...they want to translate this the same as the computer market with an excess of 80% market share with the big excemption, this time they want the hardware as well...they are going to get it no doubt in my mind...along with intel...these 2 companies cannot function without each other in a constant partnership...it's called the WINTEL alliance...
The day is fast approaching where the purchase of a mobile/tablet will be the same as the purchase of a laptop today...the difference is you wouldn't be going to a shop to purchase but on line...from microsoft directly...microsoft's plan is a hybrid one, a business model between apple and dell...microsoft apart from raking in billions on th eoperating system they are making, margin wise bucket loads more on the hardware...they tasted extra revenue and growth...
http://www.reghardware.com/2012/11/06/surface_more_profitable_than_ipad/eventually android will be relegated to simple electronic devices....android as we know it today will not survive...
rumour has it apple is discontinunig INTEL processors in favour of their own ARM designed processors accross all their platforms...easier to integrate they say...maybe...
