Twice the price of an unbranded tablet with Jelly Bean...

but bearing in mind the specific use will an unbranded tablet do the deed?

It really is Apps driven.

Have a look at the Android Apps....

we do business with a few special schools and they all opted for the ipad, coz of the apps...with all it's limitations...this market is not static, it's dynamic, meaning do not be surprised in a couple of years to be using something else...

pesronally today i would opt for the android because of the OTG features...microsoft would be ok, but app shortage is keeping it down, more of business tablet in todays world...also same with the win 8 pro version due in Jan...rumour has it microsoft will release a phone as well at the same time...
http://www.theregister.co.uk/2012/11/02/microsoft_phone_do_it/

as i said microsoft's solution today is towards business, but with the inclussion of an xbox tablet to the family sometime next year the ball game will change...
http://www.theregister.co.uk/2012/11/07/microsoft_tests_xbox_surface_gaming_tablet/

the decline of apple dominance has already started, apart from the obvious, it's share price, microsoft and intel want the lot...the fact microsoft is gone direct the first time in it's history is a telling sign...Intel on the other hand is sitting outside on all this but they are busy trimming their chipsets to combat ARM processors...in the meantime all microsoft partners are crying foul...with ACER the most vocal of the group...not to mention microsoft by-passed it's own distributors as well...

Microsoft's plans and future growth is the mobile market...they want to translate this the same as the computer market with an excess of 80% market share with the big excemption, this time they want the hardware as well...they are going to get it no doubt in my mind...along with intel...these 2 companies cannot function without each other in a constant partnership...it's called the WINTEL alliance...

The day is fast approaching where the purchase of a mobile/tablet will be the same as the purchase of a laptop today...the difference is you wouldn't be going to a shop to purchase but on line...from microsoft directly...microsoft's plan is a hybrid one, a business model between apple and dell...microsoft apart from raking in billions on th eoperating system they are making, margin wise bucket loads more on the hardware...they tasted extra revenue and growth...
http://www.reghardware.com/2012/11/06/surface_more_profitable_than_ipad/

eventually android will be relegated to simple electronic devices....android as we know it today will not survive...

rumour has it apple is discontinunig INTEL processors in favour of their own ARM designed processors accross all their platforms...easier to integrate they say...maybe...

The 10 inch iPad with retina screen is a terrific machine. The quality and range of the apps is a very strong point. It's a near flawless experience - as you'd expect from Apple. I'm looking forward to checking out the iPad mini. Only thing is I don't think I can go back to a non-retina screen. Once the ipad mini goes retina (maybe in the next upgrade) I might be tempted by a more portable device. But for home use I don't think the larger iPad can be beat.

the battle is fought on connectivity, not on gimmicks...they all have gimmicks...for example i can connect a 64GB USB drive to my galaxy phone s2 and transfer any files i want accross, any file format, either for storage or usage...i can also play a file from my USB drive...can you do all this on any ipad, or iphone or ipod?...

i can also connect a 2TB hard drive as long as it's powered...on a galaxy tablet i can hook 4 port hub meaning at least 4 x 64GB USB drives, or a keaboard, a mouse a camera etc...or a combination of USB and card reader...very flexiple...can you do this on an ipad?...not really...

as i said connectivity is the go here...and microsoft along with intel have the upper hand on this...

as i said nothing is static...technology is dynamic...but in this case i see can the obvious...

I have an iPad and I don't have any of these issues. I don't carry any flash drives or external storage devices with me. I have most of my files and apps saved in iCloud and Dropbox which I sync to the iPad. If I needed to connect a camera or SD card I can use the Apple Camera Connection kit. I can easily connect my Bluetooth mouse and keyboard to my iPad and it works perfectly. I can also stream music and films from my computer to the iPad without a problem in any format using Airvideo. It works without a hitch.

When I first got an iPad I wanted to store and play Avi files on my ipad. So I'd convert them to mpeg4 on my desktop and sync to the iPad. I eventually found an app called CineXPlayer which can play avi files directly on my ipad. It works really well.

Once you get used to working this way on an iPad using wifi and streaming it makes sense why Apple has designed the iPad to work like this. If you really need a physical drive though you can buy a wifi external drive made by Seagate to boost the storage of the iPad. At the moment I just don't have the need for it.

can you run office on your ipad?...one of the many things an ipad can't do...as i said the battle is going to be fought on connectivity...and microsoft has the upper hand...wait and see...

http://www.forbes.com/sites/ericsavitz/2012/10/10/microsoft-dont-expect-office-for-ipad-in-the-near-term/

there is no argument to the need for a tablet.......what i am saying, microsoft is going to dominate in a large scale due to their already dominance...it's unavoidable they own the market, they have a sizeable gaming platform and best of all the money to take anyone on...

microsofts growth has stood at a standstill for a longtime now...yes making tonnes of cash every year but they have no growrth path...they maxed...they see this as their growth path...transfering/adding thier huge market share to the mobile market, with the exemption along with intel to own the hardware as well...

they tasted an income through their hardware sales, and nothing will stand in their way...read the articles on the profit of each tablet they sale...but wait and see

what you like has nothing to do with anything...it's just in the future what you like will be running on microsoft, that's all...as far as you are concern, you will still have the same experience...and you will stil be happy as larry...

jeez my galaxy S2 runs circles around your ipad...
