Yet another Environmental Disaster in "trnc"...

... And more incompetence from the Rubbish Regime of "trnc"...

Reported in haberkibris...

There' s been a major spill of dirty fuel-oil in to the sea at the power-station near the village of Occupied Agios Amvrosios on the Kyrenia coast. The same plant that suffered a malfunction a few days ago with the consequent release of loads of pollutants to air.

This time, some 100 Tonnes of fuel-oil leaked in to sea during a botched refuelling and is now putting the Kyrenia coast at risk.

The response of the incompetent all the monies gone in to greedy pockets Regime of "trnc"...

...to beg for help with a request to send booms and other containment and cleaning gear from Mersin, which won't arrive 'til tomorrow... if it comes at all of course.

A picky posted elsewhere of the attempts by "trnc" to clean up the oil spill.

There was another incident a few weeks ago during refuelling at this plant... but not on this scale.

A spill which environmentalists are reported as saying is threatening turtle nesting beaches up there.

Also from lemonCY
Power plant emits pitch-black smoke

KYRENIA – The Teknecik power plant, located near Agios Amvrosios / Esentepe in the northern part of Cyprus gave out pitch-black smoke for hours last week due to a failure in the system that regulates the fuel-air ratio.

According to a news story in Havadis newspaper by Ceren Özbil, the black smoke covered an area of about 30 kilometres and reached Kyrenia, causing panic among locals and tourists.

Environmentalists, who were outraged by the incident, stressed that the chimney of the power plant does not have a filter, causing the plant to pollute the air with poisonous smoke on a daily basis. They stated that this last incident is the final straw and called on “officials” to take the necessary measures.

As a result of the failure in the fuel-air ratio system, the power plant was completely shut down in an attempt to prevent further pollution. Many places in the northern part of Cyprus remained without electricity for more than four hours.

More on the environmental disaster in the occupied areas:

Oil spill off the Karpas ‘a catastrophe’

AN OIL spill in the Karpas peninsula in the occupied north has caused one of the largest environmental disasters the island has faced, it was reported on Tuesday.

Around 100 tonnes of oil were spilt at around 2am after a pipeline from a tanker broke during attempts to supply the AKSA Energy power station (pictured).

Reports from the north claim the oil spill covered a radius of five kilometres on the southern side of the Karpas, towards the occupied village of Vokolida or Bafra as it is known in the north. From the spill a nearby fish farm was affected, reports said.

Efforts to clean the area are ongoing as a crisis management team has been assembled to deal with the problem. A special ship which deals with oil spills was reportedly on the way from Mersin in Turkey.

‘Foreign Minister’ Kutlay Erk said that the UN and Ankara had both been contacted to help with the clean-up process.

According to reports from the north, Erk strongly criticised AKSA for their role in the disaster and said those found at fault would be punished.

The north’s ‘Environment Minister’ Mehmet Harmanci carried out an inspection on the area and told reporters that the north did not possess the means to deal with such crises. He gave assurances that whoever was to blame for the incident would be punished.

The head of the power station said that the accident was due to a technical fault.

The Association of Turkish Cypriot Biologists labelled it the largest environmental catastrophe in the island’s history. The association’s general secretary, Hasan Sarpten, said that no matter how much effort was made to clean-up the spill, around 20 per cent of the oil would never be removed from the sea.
