DEMCO insurance Paphos problem - urgent!

Postby die7 » Wed Oct 24, 2012 2:20 pm

Got a phone call today from the Paphos agent of our car insurance. He told us, our insurances (paid for 1 year in advance in August) will be cancelled from tomorrow !!
Reason should be that ''Prime'', the new owner of DEMCO (?????) doesn't cooperate with the office in Paphos anymore. (As far as I know: Interlife and Demco ARE Prime since 2011?!
So we would have to effect a new insurance - for example with Prime- BUT:
the rest of the amount we already paid 3 months ago to Demco could be refunded not until december.
Very strange, isn't it?
We have an insurance with DEMCO, not with the agent in Paphos, don't we??
Who else has an insurance with the Paphos agent of DEMCO or in another town and can find out what's going on?
Tried the tel.nr. in Nicosia, but that doesn't work.
In addition to the problem that we don't have the money TODAY to pay our car insurance AGAIN, of course who knows if we get the money back from DEMCO in december if this agent /they don't work anymore???
Any help would be appreciated, also tel.nrs. a.s.o.
Is it possible to effect an insurance for 2 months only?

The Ministry of Commerce Industry and Tourism has a Consumer Protection Service…

http://www.mcit.gov.cy/mcit/mcit.nsf/dm ... enDocument

Go see them where you can lodge an official complaint (they have forms there) and a rep will be appointed to deal with your case. A few years ago I got results (75% refund) against a popular holiday package company within a week!

NB: I am in Nicosia though so I don't know what the Paphos offices are like!

Just phoned to PRIME in Nicosia:
ALL contracts of clients from this agent in Paphos are invalid from tomorrow!
So this concernes everybody who has a Prime insurance from the Paphos agent.

Bad joke, they say you can come to their office in Nicosia and get the money refunded.
WITH WHAT CAR???
Ours don't have an insurance anymore!
They say this woild have been the only possiblity to get rid of this agency.

One question - were they your broker/agent or were they appointed by Prime and you had no choice but to insure with prime.

dear Sirs

I refer to yours of ....

I would be greatful if you you would spcify by return the precise clause of the Policy that you are seeking to rely upon in unilaterally terminating the contract.

I must point out that I am not a party to the dispute you have with MEDCO but I have a contract with you for insurance valid to .... which you are purporting to repudiate.
I must however reject your notice of termination as invalid and must ask you to confirm by return that cover for which premium has been paid in full is maintained until the specified expiry date in the policy. I consider you are still bound by the policy.

I must otherwise hold you responsible for any and all consequnces that may flow from you notice and any attempt by you to rely upon it.

I am formally complaining to the regulatory Authoruties.

Just to inform you here freom the return mail from PRIME insurance:

''We must further point out that the aforesaid Policy can be freely cancelled by either party to the contract, namely the Insured or the Insurance Company, without either party giving any reason for the cancellation. For what it may be worth, the Company had no alternative other than to cancel all insurance policies for which Mr Mant.........acted as an insurance mediator because the latter failed to provide us with particulars of the policyholders’ overdue premiums.''
and:
'' ..it goes without saying that we shall be pleased to be of service to you through our Paphos Office (Tel. 26911765) and you need not come to Nicosia for this purpose as you were inadvertently told. We take this opportunity to assure you that we are sorry for any inconvenience we have caused to you by reasons beyond our control and we look forward to rendering to you our best services.''

Meanwhile Mr. Man.... told us to make a new insurance with him, pay cash (!!) and we'll get a check from him in december as the refund of the former one!!
He won't be there in december, I'm sure!!!! :o

We learned: NEVER PAY CASH at an insurance agent's office, especially not at this one!

So be careful everyone and thanks for your male template supporttheunderdog!
