Turkey recognized Cyprus officially?

Bağış warns Greek Cypriots ahead of Fener game

23 October 2012 / ,

Turkey's EU Minister and Chief Negotiator Egemen Bağış has said Turkey will raise even the smallest problem that occurs during an international game in Limassol, Greek Cyprus, between Turkey's Fenerbahçe and Greek Cypriot side AEL Limassol with related international institutions.

In remarks to the Anatolia news agency during his visit to Rome, Bağış said Greek Cypriots are aware of this as well. Bağış added that the game is an opportunity for the Greek Cypriot administration to prove its statehood by ensuring the security of visitors to their country. “Their past mistakes have shown that they are not even a tribe,” he said.
…………………………………………….
Speaking about Fenerbahçe not travelling to Limassol from Ercan Airport, located in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (KKTC), Bağış said the Istanbul club cannot use the airport for a European cup game since the KKTC is not recognized as a state by the EU and by the European Union of Football Associations (UEFA), the organizer of the Europa League competition.

Poor Bagis. Not having anything to say or to do in relation to his field (Turkey-EU relations) he is now dealing with foot ball.

So, if Cyprus manages to ensure the safety of the Turkish visitors it will prove its statehood even to Turkey and Turkey will have to respect it? I suspect the clown will regret having made this comments.

P.S. If UEFA does not recognize the regime of the North this means it does not recognize their flag either. Right? So what happens if they raise the flag of the north in the field? Disqualification due to provocation and due to violation of UEFA regulations?

It will be a very interesting game indeed.

Yes. I read today that the Turkish team and its 70 supporters arrived in the Republic of Cyprus at Larnaca airport and stayed in Nicosia. Of course, they couldn't go to the game via any airport in the occupied areas as they would have been deemed to have entered Cyprus illegally and would have been correctly turned back by the Cypriot authorities.

Turkish Cypriot supporters were also allowed to the game via the Dometios checkpoint. One was arrested on an outstanding warrant and two who were Turkish nationals were rightly denied entry.

All went without a hitch.

There is only one state on the island of Cyprus....

if there is only one state in cyprus, what is the checkpoint doing there. i am afraid there are two states and if we allowed it to continue as it is it will be legalised sooner or later.

this makes interesting reading. so has the eu helped cyprus peace or hindered it.

You are confused. The international community, the EU and the UN only recognise one state on the island. The existence of the Green Line does not change this fact. The sooner that Turkish Cypriots wake up to this reality the better it will be for them. The only realistic solution for the TCs is for them to be integrated back into a federal Republic of Cyprus. Anything else is just perpetuating the isolation and inevitable extinction of Turkish Cypriots from the island.

the first time i heard tcs will be extinct on this island was in 1962 when your psychopathic president said he wanted to rid the island of her turkish community. the second time was in 1964 when your other swine to be president later on claimed that if they spotted any turkish ships off 12 miles by the time they docked there would be no tcs left to save. well there are still here to this day. it is nice to know your mentality has not changed in 47 years. but no fear the tcs will be here for millennia and beyond. long after all your jeans come mother russia or slavia.

Don't count on it. It is Turkish Cypriots who are these days repeatedly warning about the extinction of their community from the island. And if Turkish Cypriots do vanish as a community it will not be at the hands of the Greek Cypriots but from their supposed 'benefactors' Turkey.

After a history of making the wrong choice at every possible opportunity I don't have much faith in T/Cs to prevent their slide into oblivion. Communities can become extinct just like certain species of animals. There's no law which states that T/Cs must be around forever.

As one T/C recently put it: "People remember the American Indians but who will remember the Turkish Cypriots?"

The repetition of this stupid propaganda of yours may sound somewhat persuading to your TMT friends but it does not persuade anyone else. Not even the majority of your fellow TCs. So stop wasting your breath.
