Bağış warns Greek Cypriots ahead of Fener game
23 October 2012 / ,
Turkey's EU Minister and Chief Negotiator Egemen Bağış has said Turkey will raise even the smallest problem that occurs during an international game in Limassol, Greek Cyprus, between Turkey's Fenerbahçe and Greek Cypriot side AEL Limassol with related international institutions.
In remarks to the Anatolia news agency during his visit to Rome, Bağış said Greek Cypriots are aware of this as well. Bağış added that the game is an opportunity for the Greek Cypriot administration to prove its statehood by ensuring the security of visitors to their country. “Their past mistakes have shown that they are not even a tribe,” he said.

Speaking about Fenerbahçe not travelling to Limassol from Ercan Airport, located in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (KKTC), Bağış said the Istanbul club cannot use the airport for a European cup game since the KKTC is not recognized as a state by the EU and by the European Union of Football Associations (UEFA), the organizer of the Europa League competition.

Poor Bagis. Not having anything to say or to do in relation to his field (Turkey-EU relations) he is now dealing with foot ball.
So, if Cyprus manages to ensure the safety of the Turkish visitors it will prove its statehood even to Turkey and Turkey will have to respect it? I suspect the clown will regret having made this comments.
P.S. If UEFA does not recognize the regime of the North this means it does not recognize their flag either. Right? So what happens if they raise the flag of the north in the field? Disqualification due to provocation and due to violation of UEFA regulations?
It will be a very interesting game indeed.
