Just got off the phone to the real, former junior member of Stroumbi branch of EOKA, the former member, the banned for several life-times Miltiades.

He is well and sends regards to all and thanks those who have asked after him, particularly Schnauzer, who he describes as a very polite man.

He sends greetings to someone he describes as "young GR" with the reminder that Milti's views on an Israelli/CY alliance have been proved correct.

He is still shagging the bird one-third his age from Belarus and is off there shortly with his erectile medication for some more sessions.

He denies any connection to the posts by someone calling himself Milti over the weekend and adds that this poster IS AN IMPOSTER...!!!

Far be it from me to question an EOKA veteran, especially one I don't know, but I think the issue of any CY/Israeli alliance is much more delicate than you are making out.

Speaking from a purely strategic point of view of self-interest, and not ethically, there are both pros and cons to such an alliance.

It is true that and alliance with Israel will help put pressure on Turkey, but at the same time it risks alienating us at the UN whose mandate is very important to us strategically.

Further, it risks deepening the Cyprus problem into a religious issue rather than an issue of imperialism. We don't want that, which is why a third of the island consistently votes AKEL.

Finally, as far as the ethics go, I think the case for solidarity with Palestine remains clear cut.

The best course is the one we are pursuing of remaining on good terms with as many of our neighbours as possible.

Yes, we must all remain sympathetic to our friends in Palestine and perhaps CY can contribute to good relations between all its neighbours... bar the usual suspect ... well, for the time being.
