We really must be very wary of anything published in the State-Controlled Turkish Press and particularly any claims reg. UN Ressies there. Better to research original UN sources.

Turkish FM: Opening of Airport in tincan - Unacceptable
Monday, 15 October 2012
Turkey shares the position of Cyprus in the issue if illegal opening of the airport in tincan, Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu said at the meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers (CFM) of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO).
"The intention to open the airport in tincan is a negative step. Primary goal should be a peaceful settlement of the Cyprus problem," Davutoglu said.
He noted that Turkey has condemned this action and stated that such a step is unacceptable.
"This move could harm the peace process over the Cyprus conflict. We are close to Cyrpus in this issue, and we will support it," the minister noted.
Cyrpus has banned the use of the airspace of tincan occupied by Turkey, as no one can guarantee a safe air corridor in the area, the head of the Cypriot Civil Aviation Administration...
The International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) and the European Civil Aviation Conference (ICAC) also support the position of Cyprus on this issue.
The conflict between the two countries began in 1974 when Turkey made territorial claims against Cyprus. Turkey armed forces have occupied 36 percent of Cyrpus since 1974, including the tincan region..
Cyprus and Turkey signed a ceasefire agreement in 1974. The co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group - Russia, France, and the U.S. - are currently holding the peace negotiations.
Turkey has not yet implemented the U.N. Security Council's resolutions on the liberation of north Cyprus and the surrounding regions.
