Democratic elections that determine the future of a people is the crux of “free determination”! What else were you expecting? :?

Just free elections? How about referendums to determine the long term future of a country and of nations? Were the Cypriots allowed to freely determine whether they approved or not the London-Zurich agreements? How come the will of Cypriots as determined freely in the referendum of 51 was not respected?

Oh, is that what you were crying about?

The 1950 unofficial petition by the Church in favor of Enosis! And what a debacle that was... not even Greece took it seriously and rejected to greet the Cypriot Orthodox delegation that attempted to present the Greek government with the results!

By today’s standards, this was nothing but a unofficial, disorganized, poorly conducted, and undemocratic, propaganda stunt by the Church. In fact it was so corrupt that no less than 800 Turkish Cypriots also voted in favor!

We’re cool Cypriots baby!!! :)

i ask you again GR, give me a source or a link to what you are talking about that predates 74.. that Cypriots arent Greek in origin....or that a group of Cypriots organized themselves pre 74 to fight against Hellenism.....

I was talking about traditional dances... and you? :?

If your question is… “Prove that Cypriots aren’t Greek” I don’t need to prove anything because historians ADMIT that the notion is a FACTOID.

Some Harvard professors also claim that mermaids exist, what I'm saying is that a title behind a name doesn't constitute factoids. Maybe these so called historians are picking up on old British propaganda past and present and feeding it to you. Don't be too surprised that in the not too distant future some insignificant historians will be claiming that the occupied areas always had a majority of Turks there even before 74, which I've seen written up in newspapers and mags. The history me and you see is distorted by politics....real history has to be studied in depth. Got it!!

Then maybe a new one should be conducted in 1959 between all Cypriots? What do you think the result would be???

Admit it. The CY flag (in order to come back to the topic) is the sad symbol of the shameful undemocratic/colonial solution imposed on us, which was contrary to the wish and the aspirations of the vast majority of that part of the inhabitants of the island (GREEK Cypriots) who fought and bled for its liberty and the self determination of its people.

I dont know how old you are Kimono, but your sentiments regarding the vast majority of Greek Cypriots seems untrue. İ think the truth was the exact opposite; that the vast majority were glad the British yoke was removed and they welcomed the formation of the Cyprus Republic. A small minority (both GC and TC) might have had their suspicions on the success of this new partnership but that is a different story. Well, that is my opinion. Unfortunately since then a lot has happened and history seems to have been re-writen more than a few times.

Honestly… I think 10% will want enosis with Sri Lanka, 15% enosis with Russia, 20% enosis with England and about 20% enosis with Greece. The rest of us won’t want enosis with anybody.

:? I cannot see the Cypriot connection with Greece in order to pair them in any way... perhaps this is your very problem... seeing a connection when in fact there isn't/wasn't one in the first place.

Never in the history of Cyprus was Greece the administrator of the island in any way or form, and I don't accept factoids about some "boat people" that caused Cypriots to vanish into thin air… I’m sorry! These things just don’t happen in the real world.

Just to add something...

As for language…they say the language spoken in Cyprus was Greek but I don’t agree with that!

Cypriot is incomprehensible to Greeks and vice versa! I clearly recall pre-74 when we all spoke Cypriot 100%!

I couldn’t understand a word of Greek…I didn’t even know where Greece was and nor did I ever look for it!

It seems we lived two separate life styles… I lived the traditional Cypriot village life and maybe those who are pro-Greece came and went to Greece maybe or had a Greek parent… I have no idea how Cypriotism which was so dominant could’ve escaped them! :?

Sounds like you were/are a minority Cypriot. Are you sure you're not part TC? :?
