The law of the sea convention is clear and bears no dispute on the southern oil fields. This ploy of the unilateral claim which via paid PR campaigns is elevated to a dispute is well known. It won't work in this case.

Lately Turkish pashas in Ankara have invented a new "dispute" over the islands of Gavdos and Gavdopoula south of Crete. The US, through spokesman Nicholas Burns called that claim "nonsense".

So tell us Lordo, what excuse will Turkey use to take over Lilmassol. Last time it was for the protection of the TCs whom it reduced by 50 per cent. This time it will be for the protection of GCs? Nothing surprises me from such cynical bastards. Or like Nasradin Hodja said re the doneky, from a **** expect everything.

let me spell it out for you. they will send couple of grey wolves to the south and fire few bullets to the north kill a few soldiers and bob's your uncle. next stop limassol. presumably once it happens you will want a peace treaty with limasol included in the land to be handed back. but judging by past expereince when you refused varosa to be handed back with no strings attached i suspect you will say no that too. it just sohappens i have land in limasol so at least i will have it back quicker than it takes to go through the roc nonjustice system. what a result. cant wait

Yes, re the CY oil/gas... it's been an 18 month campaign from Piri Reis and onwards by Turkey and its Fifth Columnists in CY to create a dispute which Turkey will argue can only be settled through negotiation. On the face of it a laughable campaign to search for non-existent gas, to drill off-shore when no international drilling company will go near the CY EEZ without the leave of the Republic but it has this thought out purpose to muscle in on CY resources.

Seen loadsa articles, all singing from the same song-sheet, which support the contention that there is an organised campaign, like the one in the easily taken-in CY Mail today which reports on Turkey/Eroglu's ridiculous drilling attempts, with offers to "share" non-existent gas etc.

Bottom line... if there's any action to be had in CY, Turkey wants what it sees as its cut... and Turkish Agents will try and support these war-mongering attempts at thievery.

Modifying what Downer says, the people of Cyprus on both sides would gain fron unification, but the politicians would lose out big-time. No job that looks as though it will last for ever.
