The Telegraph wrote:Eurocrats are to demand £8 billion in extra national payments to the Brussels budget fuelling government anger at the "incontinence" of European Union spending.

On October 23, the European Commission will request increased contributions from national treasuries to plug a black hole in its budget, a move that could lead to an additional 7.7 per cent increase in the cost of the EU this year.

To meet a shortfall in Brussels funded projects for 2012, British taxpayers will have to find as much as £976 million on top of the £12.7 billion already earmarked this year for payments to the EU from the Treasury.

That's your taxes being pissed away by the unelected who cannot be removed or held to account by you...

how true - and some here want to promote this body signing away the sovereignty of each EU nation state including Greece and Cyprus to a body that could make the Ottoman occupation look positively beneign....

Exactly...

The ONLY reason the British are so keen to destroy any possible further integration of the European countries withing the EU [and especially that of Cyprus and Greece] is that they (British-Colonialist-Imperialists) function by divide and rule. That's all they understand! They have been destabilizing Greece since at least World War II - and we know what they did/do to Cyprus. Furthermore, any further integration of Cyprus within the EU and Britain fears its tentative hold on the Bases will be removed completely.

We don't get anything for nothing and safety within the EU is worth a few monetary sacrifices at these early stages ...

Oh do change the record...

Even in this time of austerity when your beloved Greece is on its knees you can't see that this is wrong? It must be hard to breathe with your head in the sand like that...

The EU is haemorrhaging money and is totally unaccountable... Yet you want more integration...? You are willing to give up your beloved country's sovereignty for that...? :x

Grump, are you sure her head in the sand? Imho GiG is showing her racist paranoia again - everything (in her mind) is British Conspiracy - I know of no known reason why a destabalised Greece would be of benefit to Britain let alone seen any evidence of British involvement.
Well the EU has not solved the Cyprus problem nor given Cyprus any security (let alone financial) and its not going to tackle the SBA which are NOT a part of the EU.

....And of course am a part of the conspiracy - in her dreams - I don't approve of the SBA and think that they should be abolished.

As for monetary sacrifices - the EU integration she calls for is a sovereignty sacrfice for both.

I second all of the above!

Please don't mind Grump... his head is in the sand... can't see any further than some wind turbines installed on the hills above his house!
You see, the Brits think of themselves as being sooooo superior over other peoples where in fact are quite insignificant and sidelined from what's going on in Europe right now. Simply, by not adopting the Euro, Brits have no business to how Eurozone will handle the situation...

Grump, just sit back and and watch... you are not a player in this "game" not the referee but only a fan sitting at the back benches of the stadium.

Agreed!

The thing that gets me is that you don't have to dig that far to see what a corrupt and incompetent organisation the EU is...

Just look at the parliament fiasco that I mentioned earlier - it wastes billions moving back and forth between the two (three actually). :x

Yet people call for closer integration and even want them to take over defence!

That would presumably mean giving some unelected EU official control of France's nuclear weapons! :?

Yet we are a player in this game unfortunately....

Look up who contributes the cash that the EU wastes while its member countries face real austerity and hardship...

Indeed...

Of course, georgios100 works in an industry which relies on taking money from the taxpayer by way of grants, subsidies and increased energy bills for its very existence...

I suppose it is no surprise then that he is keen on more Europe with more grants and mores subsidies...

You know, the thing that demonstrates what Europe is all about for me is the 'success' of the Kinnocks.

Neil Kinnock must be one of the most useless politicians the UK has ever seen - yet after resigning from The House of Commons he went to the EU as a commissioner.

Now he is a multi-millionaire...

I don't get it...

UK is a member of EU but not in the Eurozone.
UK contributes monies to the EU only to be given to Eurozone countries in trouble...
UK has no say into Eurozone policies...
UK pays and shuts up!

Why is UK still in the EU? Is there a point to all this? What's the gain, if any?
Awaiting explanations Grump... if none is given then shut up yourself...
