To a Cypriot born abroad, from families originating in the north, the invasion erased their history and family roots. Obviously they hate those that perpetrated that crime agains them.

My son has not been to Cyprus. He is 25, and really there is no point in going. There is nothing of my past, or our family's history, left to show him. Famagusta is off limits. The surrounding villages that I knew well, now have changed names and obliterated features. Nothing is recognisably Cypriot in the place where I grew up, so there is nothing to show him. All our friends and family dispersed to the four corners of the world so there are is no community for him to contact.

How do you think he should feel towards TCs and Turks? His loss cannot be made good by any reconciliation fairy tales.

He should initially go ask the GCs who wanted to give Cyprus to Greece, the cause root of your loss.

Palekythro, Afania, Agios Sergios, Yialousa, and Omorfita well before that. When it comes to killing and burying you seem to know a thing or two as well. The four and half thousand Cypriots Ecevit said were killed in Attila II just slipped your mind no doubt. Or was he just boasting?

Nobody knows the real figures but the truth is GCs do not see TCs as their equals, thats why the divide will continue.

After a few weeks of contemplation, I would like to share something with you. I was in a club in London (very rare) went to have a sociable cigarette and started talking to a friendly man, who had an accent, turns out he was Australian, and was in the U.K, visiting family. We continue talking and I asked where his Olive skin originated from, he proudly stated that his family were Greek Cypriot and he was born in Australia, I beamed and said my family also originate from Cyprus, Turkish Cypriots. To my horror he turned his back to me...........

Maybe he has "missing" relatives? Or their remains were found in one of the mass graves?

I have met a tc who has missing relative recently having a conversation with gc who also has a missing relative and their friendship was heartworming both looking for the remains of their relatives and being helpfull to each other in their quest. the animosity does not eminate from those who have lost relatives but from those who have caused it. eoka sympathisers and elam boys. and there are a few on this forum you included my friend.

Different people react in different ways. I am honored to be called an EOKA boy, although I was not fortunate enough to be a member ( too young, at the time, you see).
As for ELAM, I think they must be worth something if guys like you and your grasshopper friends hate them so much.

P.S. Maybe the TC missing relative you mention was murdered by the TMT for not wanting to be dislocated?

VP with his old refrain "GCs who wanted to give Cyprus to Greece"

Look up the news clippings for events from July 15 till July 20 1974. GCs fought against the Greek take over. TCs are still acquiescing at the foreign take over in the north. It is this newly colonised part of Cyprus, which we do not want to see.

Non Greek village names, like Komi Kebir, Bella Paix, Angastina, etc were changed, non GC communities were kept out of the north. It is convenient to blame the GCs, but exactly what threat to the TCs did the Maronites present? What fear was inspired by the Armeninan monastery in Pentadactylos? None. They were excluded because the policy is Turks only. It had been that way all along but cynically concealed behind the victimisation myth. As more and more graves are uncovered and identified the myth is dissolving, along with the oft repeated "gifting the island" slogan.
