greece is bankrupt. you cant just compare earnings, you have to look at cost of living. i have not seen that many turks going hungry but boyt is there greeks going hungry today.

the biggest and the richest economy on earth china a worker gets paid 20 dolars a week. the usa there are 50 million people below poverty wage hungry today.

the turks are doing fine and the economy gets stronger every day.

Funny thing is, the poverty line in the USA is way above the national average earners in Turkey!

you are so right as usual.

here is a house in usa for under 1000 dollars. now show me house that is as low as that in turkey.

What does the above has anything to do with what we are talking about?

So you had to dig up some old story to say what exactly, dating back as far as April 14, 2009: 11:37 AM ET on the so called $1,000 dollar house, that needed thousands to renovate to make it livable in some obscured location in the enormous country as the USA. When the housing market went tits up and the properties became "underwater", people just walked away from them, since they didn't even make a down payment on the properties, so why keep them.

you realy need a lesson in economy my friend. have a look at spending against earning and you will see that there are more people hungry in usa then turkey even when you consider the population size.

Turkey has the world's 3rd most expensive petrol per litre in the world, at almost $2.60, about 250% more expensive than the USA and the USA's average income being about 600% more than those in Turkey.

Yeah, I see what you mean about the ratios on spending and earnings between the USA and Turkey!

Oh, you can also buy a house in the USA for just $1,000 dollars. Can you do the same in Turkey?

I think I will skip on your economics lessons for us here on the forum.

Someone can't work out their percentages it seems above!

Keep your lessons to yourself!

Overall, the Turks are getting screwed big time in their income-expense ratios, compared between the USA and Turkey, so what exactly was your point again, Lordo? :?

When using purchasing power parity (PPP) calculations for the Turks, it is only useful when buying domestically produced products from Turkey, but the moment they buy imports, they lose out big time since they need to pay the going rate for the products of the exporting countries, and even more perhaps, with the added import taxes imposed on the products by Turkey, in which case, income based on GDP per capita chart is more appropriate to use.

Income injustice untouched by speedy GDP growth in 2011

As inflation ate into their wages, private sector employees were not better off last year despite a gross domestic product growth of 8.5 percent. (Photo: Today's Zaman)

It is on the tip of everybody's tongue that Turkey exhibited amazing economic performance last year, when its gross domestic product (GDP) expanded by nearly 9 percent, but Monday's official data indicate that such a performance was not exactly helpful in leveling economic disparities in the country.
According to the Turkish Statistics Institute's (TurkStat) Income and Living Conditions Survey, the wealthiest 20 percent of the people had an income eight times that of the poorest 20 percent in 2011 -- unchanged from a year earlier. The income distribution last year was only slightly better than in 2007 -- before the global financial crisis -- when the same ratio was 8.1 times.
TurkStat's figures announced on Monday suggested that the richest quintile claimed 46.7 percent of all the wealth produced in the country. It was, however, only 5.8 percent for all the people positioned in the poorest quintile.

Turkish families deep in debt, 2 million may face levies: MP
ISTANBUL- Hürriyet Daily News
August/21/2012

The debts of Turkish families to banks is dangerously increasing, a study by the main opposition CHP lawmaker Aygün says. Consumer loans are the main concern

Turkish families are deep in debt as their financial responsibilities have jumped 18 times in the past nine years while their income has only doubled in the given time, according to an opposition lawmaker, who warns about the risks of levy for millions.

The rate of family debt has exceeded 50 percent of spendable income and the ratio of debt to financial assets has hit 45 percent, according to a study revealed by Sinan Aygün, a member of Parliament from the Republican People’s Party (CHP), who was also the head of the Ankara Chamber of Commerce for many years.

“Developments in the last 10 years show that the debts of families are growing like a snowball. A smaller debt rate compared with some European countries should not fool anyone. Turkey is approaching European countries in this field. Citizens are financing their expenditures with debt, and trying to pay debts with new ones as their real income keeps falling,” he said. “More than 2 million people are facing risks of levy because of their debt to banks.”

Figures provided by Aygün mainly compare the current situation with the period before Justice and Development Party (AKP) rule, which began in 2002.

Fuel prices: A never healing wound for Turks

The price of 95-octane gasoline was nearly 7 percent lower at TL
4.30 per liter ($8.90 per gallon) at the beginning of this month;
it now costs TL 15 ($8.50) more to fill up a 50-liter (13-gallon)
tank.
27 August 2012 / TODAY'S ZAMAN, ISTANBUL

Those who extended their Eid al-Fitr vacation by taking a few more days off last week had an extra reason to be unhappy when the time to return to work arrived: Fuel prices were increased again and the journey back home became costlier.
