What are these vegetables?

Postby dprevis » Thu Sep 13, 2012 12:51 pm

Hello,

I just moved here over the weekend and have enjoyed my faoray into the vegetable market but am confounded by a couple of things. What are those very long squash-looking vegetables with a crooked neck? Do they have a name in English? how do you eat them?

Also, I have seen two different kinds of roots - one large and one small. What are they called and how do you eat them?

I am excited to try new foods so any advice will be appreciated!

Are you thinking of gourds?

And the roots - are they like sweet potatoes or yams?
