UK national with residency in CY to marry russian national

Postby shabba » Wed Sep 12, 2012 1:02 pm

Hi,

I really need some help. The immigration department dont seem to use phones or emails and i know going there is gonna require a week off of work to queue.. Anyway can somone give me some advice. I will go and find out but one of you may have had a similar issue and could save me a few return trips.

1 - I am UK national living and working in CY with residency (yellow slip) and alien number etc.. i pay taxes been here 2.5 years etc.. but im not a Cypriot citizen
2 - Have fallen in love with a girl in my company at our Moscow office. We have been seeing eachother for 6 months and want to marry.
3 - Due to company policy about spouses working together she is unable to transfer to Cyprus (sadly)

Ok so this is what im desperate to know:
1 - Will she need a special visa to come and marry? I think the answer is no to this
2 - When married will she be able to stay?
3 - Will she be able to apply for jobs?

Thanks!

1. I think she can marry during a holiday trip.

2. Nope.

3. I doubt it because she’s not an EU citizen but don’t worry because there are no jobs!

1. No
2. Yes
3. Yes
Once she is married to you then she can apply for a yellow or pink slip. But as GR said there are not many jobs in Cyprus now, so don't count on that.

You will need an Apostille'd letter from her home town to confirm she is not married and you have to submit that to the Ministry of the Interior.
You will need to to obtain an affidavit at the Law Courts to say you are not married.
If either of you are divorced you will need to have the original divorce document Apostille'd in your home countries.
Your best bet is to go to a Wedding Planner and they will tell you exactly what to do. You won't need a special visa, a tourist visa is OK
Allow for her residency interview in advance as usually there is a few months wait for an appointment. Make the appointment for a couple of days after the wedding and your new wife will be issued with her Aliens Card and that makes her legal in Cyprus.

Have Fun

You'll be lucky! I know people married to non-EU nationals for years that are still waiting to get their paper work sorted out!

Tha above is all correct - as the wife of an EU Citizen she will have the right to live with you and work here (if she can find a job)

there are a number of sites that can provide information - see for example http://www.cyprusembassy.net/home/index.php?module=page&cid=1045 or http://www.ucm.org.cy/Webcontent.aspx?Code=EN.PROMO_MARRIAGES&Language=English

Talk to the wedding officer in the Municipality where you are to be married - find out what documentation they want - you will need Birth certificates, passports, your own residence permit, and the necessary declarations about marital status (i.e. single widowed or divorced) and you will need to get certified translations of any necessary documents which are in Russian, which can be done by the PIO in Nicosia. (the cheap way to do this is to do the translations yourself and they then confirm they are correct: that is cheaper than getting the PIO to do to the full translation). At the same time it worth getting certified copies of original papers.

Hi,

First of all thankyou! it is so nice to find a bunch or helpful people who know what they are talking about. So many forums on here give you non-answers. Whilst i accept unsaid disclaimer that its my problem to check this stuff etc, it is nice that you took the time to reply and that you actually had suggestions. Very refreshing!

As for the jobs she is a qualified translator and teacher and i have places that will take her on, but they cant sponsor immigration. So i guess as long as we can marry and get the paperwork and alien card she is good to apply.

Fantastic stuff!!

Now im going to go and battle immigration again. P.s if you get tired of your current jobs you might wanna try the immigration department. You know your stuff and respond to people needing help.. the two things that cyp immigration fail to do!

Hi CBB

I did say "get the Aliens Card", not the Residency Slip which as you rightly pointed out took me two years to get for my wife. By having the Aliens Card it shows the application is in the system which allows your spouse to stay in the country while her Yellow Slip it is being processed. Yhe Yellow Slip will only be valid for 5 years and then you have to start the whole process again

As Stud said you have to get original copies certified but this has to be done in the applicants home country and they have to be Apostille'd; Notarised is not accepted these days

I'm all right Jack, I don't have to visit immigration any more, unless it is to help out some foreigner!
