Hi guys, long time no post!

Anyone any ideas on best local sim card? Want to be able to message to UK.

bigdog...The cost of roaming is being brought down by European ruling, so I'd check what your current provider charges. If you've been with them for some time, you could probably even contact them and ask them what kind of offer they could give to you for the period of your stay.

You could also try what the Asians in the UK do, when calling their families back 'home' - there's a provider called 'Lebara', that charges about 1p per minute, so they could be worth looking into.

From his query, bigdog seems more interested in the cost of text messages.

CBBB...Yes, so he should find out what deal his own provider can give. I'm not sure of the price of texts with Lebara, but it's another provider he could try. I don't think the smaller providers will be able to do anything, as they usually piggy-back the larger providers, e.g. Tesco buy airtime from Orange. I'd also stay away from providers like Vodaphone, as I would assume they're extortionate prices - though they are subject to the same European rulings about lowering the cost of roaming prices.
