Thanks once again. We actually asked the father of the groom whether money was still pinned and he said yes - but we'll plan for both options.

Also, thanks for the information re. the koumbaro/koumera system. Really wouldn't have known about this so very grateful for the info.

Really looking forward to seeing the new year in Paralimni too!

Baggieboy wrote:Good afternoon all,

We are honoured to have been invited to a Cypriot wedding in December and we want to ensure that we observe all traditions properly.

Could anyone provide advice, tips etc - especifically the gift. It is a traditional wedding apparently, with the money pinned to the dress, so could I ask what would be seen as a "correct" amount to give.

We're genuinely touched to have been invited and would not want to offend our Cypriot friends.

Thanks in anticipation,

Richie.

A wedding in the UK would probably have 200 guests max but a wedding in Cyprus could have between 1,000 and 5,000 people (mine had about 2,000) so guests don’t gift as high as they would in the UK because most are not relatives.

I kid you not but we even got 4-5 anonymous envelopes that contained wrapped up toilet paper! Probably from old age pensioners who couldn’t afford anything.

I thought you might of needed it to wipe your bum.

Lol!! Yea it happened to me this fat gypsy lady and her kids came trying to steal the loukoumia.
We found an envelope with expired lottery tickets from 2 years prior. we guessed it was them.

It brought us so much laughter it was amazing
