USA to become the New SaudiArabia inEnergy production

Postby wyoming cowboy » Tue Aug 28, 2012 5:44 am

The recent new technologies in deep water drilling be the reason an American company,Noble Energy, is the only one drilling outside of Cyprus?

"...No doubt, the renaissance in U.S. oil and gas is really happening, fueled by new technology and high oil prices. About a decade ago, innovators aggressively began to marry horizontal drilling, which allows producers to access large swaths of an underground resource from a single well, with hydraulic fracturing -- better known as fracking -- which uses high-pressure fluids to crack dense rock and allow oil and gas to flow. The combination has unlocked vast quantities of oil and gas buried in shale rock deep underground. Technology has also allowed producers to tap resources far beneath the sea in a way that wasn't possible before; just two years after the Deepwater Horizon oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico, offshore production has recovered, helping spur U.S. oil production upward...."

Noble, the U.S. concern which reported major natural gas discoveries off Israel and Cyprus, could potentially follow up its natural gas venture with exploration for oil, said John Tomich, the Cyprus country manager for Noble Energy.

"The tantalising element here is the possibility of oil," Tomich told a conference in Nicosia. There were tentative plans to explore but that had not been finalised, he said.

Are American companies the only ones with the new drilling technologies capable of exploring the hydrocarbons off the coast of Cyprus

Isn't it fracking that causes earthquakes and contaminates groundwater?

not really, but if it causes a few earthquakes or contaminates a little water .....so what?

this company seems like its investing enormous amounts of money for these oil/natural gas fields and a lot of investment in the liquefaction plant at Vassiliko, which is estimated at $$ 10billion$$, would all the gas found in the(Egypt, Lebanon, Israel, Cyprus) East med region be going through Cyprus' LNG plant and supplying Europe?.....probably.....and how does this effect the Cyprus problem?

There is a load of anti-fracking propaganda around - the film Gasland being the most well known.

Fracking has proved to be extremely safe in the US over many years and has dramatically reduced the price of gas.

When they started fracking in the UK there were a lot of scare stories about earthquakes but they turned out to be no larger or more serious than the background 'noise' that happens every day.

Sadly, the enviroloons in the UK and EU prefer to spend our money on pointless windmills and other 'renewable' energy supplies rather than exploiting the vast reserves of gas that are potentially available. The consequence of this is that the UK electricity demand will exceed supply and produce blackouts within a few years...
