I'd like to order a smartphone from computeruniverse.net (good prices there). Anybody had experience of receiving such packages with electronics with DHL in Cyprus? Is it big pain with the customs? Any duties (or maybe any advices on how to avoid them)? Thanks.
You only have to pay VAT. From the same website, choose Cyprus from the other countries within the EU list:

The VAT rates on this web-site are a little curious... thought you only paid VAT at the prevailing rate in the originating member-state and not at the rate of the destination member-state.... and what are all the refs to reduced VAT rates...??? What's that about...???
Agree. There's something dodgy with the rates in that website. CY rate is 17%, not 19%.
Nothing dodgy: normally you pay VAT at shipping country rate so goods ex Germany you pay the 19% German rate.
Reduced rate is a lower rate of at least 5% which member states are permitted to levy for some special defined categories of goods such as eg books babies nappies, resturant services. but the EU defines what is allowed on the reduced rate list.
