Helios emergency landing again!

Feel free to talk about anything that you want.

It is a sad fact that, in the absence of any real news the media like to nmake their own. Look at the bird flu press at the moment – you could believe that merely being in the same country as a bird would start a pandemic that will wipe out the entire population of the world.

It is the same with Helios – they aren’t special, you’ll find that after any air ‘incident’ (especially involving casualties) the airline or aircraft in question comes under close scrutiny.

Example: Look at what the press did to Concorde – an excellent aircraft with an excellent safety record but the press kept on and on after that Air France crash until the thing was just not viable. No mention of the fact that the aircraft was loaded out of limits, the tires were too old, that captain shut down the wrong engine, etc. The press must be very proud of themselves.

It is inevitable that Helios will be cautious at the moment but the incidents that are currently being reported happen to airlines all over the world every day – they’re just not reported. Thousands of aircraft take off every day with faults that are logged by the crew but not investigated until they reach their home airport. I bet Helios flights don’t!

In reality, Helios is probably one of the safest airlines to fly on at the moment.

You will find that the most accidents happen with used Boeing aircraft which are sold to low-cost airlines. The low-cost airlines cut back on maintenance to save money when they should be spending more!!!!!!!

The only low cost airline that should be allowed to fly is Easyjet. When is that bugger coming to Cyprus anyway?

HAVE YOU GOT ANY IDEA WHAT A LOW COST AIRLINE IS?HAVE YOU GOT ANY IDEA WHAT AIRCRAFT MAINTENANCE IS AND HOW IS CARRIED OUT.HAVE YOU GOT ANY IDEA WHAT A USED AICRAFT IS? ......... I DONT THINK SO

I agreee Kenneth, people that do have a real clue what a maintenance is, engineering is, etc. just throw out their rubbish... Just like when the Helios tragedy happened... ALL were experts, ALL had the knowledge etc to say what had happened without even knowing what an airplane is! Low-cost airline does not necessarily mean a airline with crap planes, no protocols etc. compared to hi-cost ones. Usually they are smaller companies, with faster reacting methods, and of course lower running costs (less employees). Take as an example andy Easyjet as you said. A low-cost line which probably one of the safest (or maybe the safest) airline in Europe.

I would be more concerned about the airlines who do not get their planes to land when there is a possible problem because they do not want the press finding out. They are hanged if the do and hanged if they don't.
